Hello everyone. I've only just found the NHS weightloss page. Within the last 2 years I lost 4 stone got to my ideal weight then put it all back on. I've been trying very low cal diets but I know can't do those and I feel lost with how to eat well and healthy and instead I'm bingeing and overeating. I'm sure that if I gave my 50 year old body what it wanted I would start to have some stability which is what I crave x

Lost my way
Hello, LisaButty, and welcome to the forum
You've hit the nail on the head. If we give our bodies the food they need, and remove the food that causes cravings, things will fall into place and we can regain a proper sense of hunger and appetite.
I have a couple of things for you to read that could point you in a new direction. Take your time, take on board the messages and come back with any questions

Hello LisaButty, you need to know that you are not alone. Just start all over again- It is never too late. Keep going.mxx
Hi LisaButty. Been there, done that, stretched the T-shirt over the tummy. You are right in trying to work out which healthy lifestyle works for you. If I eat too much bread, I gain weight very quickly. So, I only have two slices a week. I fill my plate with 2/3 vegetables and a small portion of chicken or fish. I follow the Slimming World Healthy Lifestyle planners out of their magazines and plan a week's shopping in one hit. I don't go to classes, they are not my thing. I can only go by the SW recipes and they are very generous. When I cut down the portions to accomodate the two of us, I still end up with a mound. That is where I am getting my portions fixed in my brain. What ever you do, don't skip meals or go very low calorie. It doesn't work and, as you can see for yourself, you (and we) binge. Good luck.
Thank you you made me smile with the stretched TShirt remark - all my weight is on my tummy ( all the women in my family). My hubby has lost 6 stone on a VLC diet and had kept it off for 2 years so they do work but my head is in too much of a mess and as he said this morning I'm either fasting or bingeing and it's causing me so much sadness. So today I will be eating well, making good choices and counting the calories. Thanks for your support xx
Since menopause all my weight has gone onto my tummy. Before it use to go all over. The upside? I now have collarbones to show off.
I'm of a certain age too. I'd not had a period for 4 months then back to square 1. It's really affecting my moods ( well that's what I tell everybody when crying lol )
Isn't it terrible how we "forget" to eat? When does this happen? How is it we become confused and no longer know what to do? What to eat? How much? Even when!! I've found that if I let go of the control I feel I need to exert, I'm not so stressed over this whole weight loss issue. All it has done is create this anxiety, this nervousness, surrounding food. Why? I'm not going to go hungry. I'm not attacking/judging. I'm asking myself. I'm seeing the sad comedy of it. I just have to laugh as I enter the kitchen sensing "there it is again!". When I'm busy or lost in whatever task, I notice food/eating is not in the forefront of my mind. My body does sense when it needs if I just allow it. Habit? This is a hang up and one to be diligent. Mindful. Aware. On guard and ready. For me, after 4pm the desire to eat is at its peak. We all have heard/read how to go about conquering bad habits. We know what to do!! More info is not it! I'm not so sure we can think our way through this. This is an inside job. "Where are we in life?" Starting out? Mid way? Grown tired? I'm 53. Midway. My body is going through its time line. It's doing what it does and right on time. Preparing for yet another stage. Nothing more. I've decided to take the opportunity to learn what it needs/wants. I've decided to chill the &*%+ out. Yes, less food. Yes, longer time in between meals. Yes, more sleep. Yes, more move it or lose it. I'm learning about variety of different foods. Chia seeds, avocados, more/ different vegs and fruits. Whole grains. Berries, nuts and seeds. I've discovered a whole new world without processed anything. Food swaps. This does not need to be drudgery. Get excited. Give yourself the time to relax and learn. Breath your way through this. Don't forget to smile at yourself and all of us. It's in us. We can do this. You can and will. Now get off the computer.....
