serial dieter seeking help

I need help Im a serial dieter, ive hit menopause and am really struggling with my weight and low self confidence. Tried slimming world and weight watchers although very successful at the start I soon go off tract as I know its more a mental change not just healthy choices. I need an eating plan that gives me flexibility as I have 2 grandchildren living with me hence my eating can be all over the place. Thought about doing a very restrictive liquid diet but these also seem very short lived #help

Hi and welcome, cd18 :)

You may find that these will help to give you a different way to approach weight loss healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I personally wouldn't go for the liquid diet, as they teach you nothing about eating healthily for life, are highly processed and will slow your metabolism, so a return to 'normal' eating will see a return of any weight loss, plus a bit more.

To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

Hello cd18 :)

It sounds as though you've learned the hard way, as many of us have, that dieting doesn't work. I hope you'll give yourself time to think about the right plan for you, that you will enjoy for life. The links moreless has given you will point you in the right direction.

Regarding the grandchildren, healthy food for adults is generally healthy food for children, as long as the portion sizes are right for each. You don't need to get into separate meals for family members. In fact, you'll be showing them the way with what, and how, you eat :)

Hi cd18 - I found my way to this forum post-menopause too, and I'm sooo glad I did, it has really helped me find what works for me.

I know I am in this for the long haul - it has to be a permanent lifestyle change as far as I am concerned - and I will keep using this forum to keep the weight off.

I've had quite a few lightbulb moments here, you need to find what motivates you psychologically. Obviously for losing weight - maybe to enjoy a longer, healthier life with your grandchildren? - but also the kinds of things you respond to - pictures, pithy sayings, etc - to find out what helps you stay on track.

I have to say that I am secretly proud in my personal life (not so secretly on this forum!) of having lost weight, it has helped me gain a lot of confidence.

Personally I have been calorie counting and planning my meals the evening before, using the NHS BMI calculator suggested calorie range and the calorie counter (you'll find them in the links above), weighing ingredients and checking the calorie content of pre-packaged food - it really is twenty minutes well spent. I record my plan on paper and also on the Daily Diary - it's then easier to stick to!

I really appreciate healthy food now. You absolutely deserve it too. Wishing you the best and hope to see you around the forum.
