muller rice
1200 calories is way, way too low for you marc.
Use the NHS BMI calculator to get your calorie range nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...
You would be best going for real foods - fruit, veg, meat, fish, eggs, cheese, full fat dairy products - rather than processed and packaged foods. That would get you on the right track. Don't go for low fat anything; it will all have been heavily processed.
I've just looked at the ingredients for muller rice: Skimmed Milk, Skimmed Milk from Concentrate , Rice (8%), Cream (Milk) (6%), Sugar, Egg, Stabilisers: Carob Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Salt, Flavourings. Not much natural there, and not much rice!
For a dessert, you could have full fat Greek yoghurt (lovely and creamy) with some berries (frozen ones are good to have in). Or maybe a baked apple, cored and stuffed with nuts and dried fruit, with double cream. They'd all be more "real" food
Hi marc1966 .. I always think that the less processed a food is the better. It is hard to always eat like that though and I am trying to get in the swing of eating fresher food. But I avoid white rice all together.. it is just starch .. wholemeal is better for you...
BUT... a little of what you fancy is a good thing if no other option is available to you.
I think I agree with BridgeGirl... after reading the ingredients.. it is a waste of calories and you will feel hungry again in no time if you eat that..
Good luck!! this healthy eating is a steep learning curve!!
Hi marc1966 ,
If you are doing a low carb. diet, you can try using cauliflower instead of rice. Lower carbs. are better for blood sugar control. I'm on a low carb. high protein diet. I'm also a type 1 diabetic. I use two types of insulin, as well to keep the blood sugars under control.
Agree with the posts above: those low-fat food substitutes are usually just full of rubbish. Stick with proper food (eg., full-fat Greek yoghurt, as per BridgeGirl's suggestion). It tastes nicer, it's better for you, and it'll help you lose weight.
Also, as Activity2004 said, if you're diabetic, you really shouldn't be eating stuff like that. You'd be much better off doing a proper LCHF diet, which will improve your blood sugar control and help you lose weight. The NHS plan will not work for diabetics, and AFAIK they don't suggest that it might.
I wouldn’t have thought so. If your allowance is only 1200 a day you should think about foods which are going to be more nutritional for you. You have lost 1 stone 7 lbs, how much more do you want to lose. Are you sure you are eating enough. If you eat too low you will not lose weight. Try full fat Greek yogurt they are lovely and creamy, avoid the ones with added fruit as they could be high in sugar. You have done really well so far, be careful not to undereat.
ive 8 stones to lose
Have you used the NHS bmi checker, you are eating too few calories and your body will go into starvation mode, you will stop losing weight and will probably begin to put it back on. 1200 calories is not sustainable, and will cause more harm than good. Yes a good weight loss so far, but it won’t stay that way. Re-evaluate your diet and chose healthy un-processed foods.
Detrimental in more ways than one. I’ve been following a LCHF diet for a while now. Meanwhile, I had a biopsy done two months ago on a facial skin pigmentation mark that had gone very dark and become infected. I’ve had no word back from hospital or GP, but since following the new regime it’s cleared up and started to fade a little - I’m going to write to the consultant and ask whether they think it could have been caused by insulin resistance as I’ve since heard that’s a classic outward sign.
Marc I have to agree with the other replies here. Low fat substitute foods would have totally the wrong effect for me. I believe eating those sorts of things over a long period of time have made me put on weight and become insulin resistant. I’m having much greater success losing weight and not craving sweet things by eating low GI carbs only with plenty of protein and healthy fats. Cheese and eggs have become my treats :))
If you do low cal ...I did for 8 months but now find I don't cal count and am losing weight even with few treats . It is very cold some days here and lack of food ain't great - more mentally . Low cal = planning . I used to blend frozen mixed veg plus onion , tomato , pepper , spinach with a cup a soup = giant bowl of soup = about 200 cals . Cottage cheese , tinned fish - great for instant decent protein . I have porridge made with water , full fat greek yogurt with berries or kiwi or a banana . Muller rice may be ok for packed lunch if you really fancy some but wouldn't have daily . Bananas I found were good gym food . Grilled chicken fish with plenty of iron rich greens . Tomato , garlic , chilli adds flavour as does herbs and vinegar which replaced mayo on a salad . Try pickled onions and gherkins -cheap at Lidl . Asda Blackcurrant tea is still my standby as it actually has a taste if you drink with the bag in the cup . Eggs I scramble in a non stick pan and add to cottage cheese for double protein and this is filling .
I would up a bit as I did 1250 cals but am now more around the 1370 mark and no difference apart than I actually feel better.
I think the problem with a Muller Rice is it tastes sweet, it's tiny and I would feel hungry again very soon after eating it, then be tempted to eat something else sweet. A lower carb, higher fat, savoury diet is much more satisfying and now I am not tempted by things like Muller Rice. I think I used to be able to have them when I did WW and I felt hungry all the time!! not any more
