Feeling a bit panicky about a night out...

Just a quick random post not under a heading as we're off to dinner at a friend's which should be a lovely occasion but I'm afraid I'll over-eat and drink and feel awful afterwards! So I'm posting here to help me plan so that doesn't happen! My plan is:

- Eat a moderate helping of each course.

- Only have one glass of wine.

- Er...that's it!

If I can do that, this should be a maintaining rather than a weight-loss day and that's FINE.

So I'm going to do it, right?

Back later!

Panic not! You have a plan and it is only one night/meal.

For me, the alcohol is the tripper upper as it not only adds its own calories but also leads me into eating more and mindlessly, so if you can keep a cap on that, you're half way there.

Enjoy your evening :)

Me too absolutely! Especially on an empty stomach. So I’ll sip my one glass v slowly with food! Thanks!

BridgeGirl advice about the alcohol is spot on. If you can control that, you can control the food! :)

If you do find you have a little more to eat and drink than you planned though, dont panic (Mr Mainwaring!) as you can always try and balance it out over the week as well.

The worst thing is not enjoying your evening - just dont think you have to eat and drink everything in sight and have a relaxed evening :)

Absolutely! Will have a bit of everything- she’s a fabulous cook! On the train there now...

Enjoy your meal and relax. I would eat slowly and I am sure you will be fine amongst your friends and if you do go over it is not the end. Knock of some of your calories on the next few days and it will pan it’s self out. Most of all enjoy yourself. 😊😊

Exactly, eat slowly. I’m planning a maintaining day today so if I’m reasonably sensible I should just be able to go back to normal weight-loss calories for the rest of the week.

Thanks again for your support everyone, that went great! And it could have been lethal. We could have had wine the moment we got there but I stuck to sparkling water. Then a great big jug of a weird and wonderful cocktail was served and I had half a glass of that, half a glass of wine with the meal and all the rest water. Main meal was all v healthy stuff so no worries there but I also ate slowly and no seconds. Then there was a v indulgent pud and I only had one slice. My husband’s eyes were out on stalks when I politely said I was full when it was being finished off! I’ve no idea about the calories in it all but think I’ve probably maintained today and best of all had a lovely time whilst still feeling in control. Have a great Sunday everyone and thanks again!

Thank you!

The most important thing without a doubt is to enjoy yourself!

I too have had a night around a friends house tonight. No idea how much wine I've drank because my glass magically kept being topped up, but 3 of us got through a bottle. We had sushi take away with a lot of soy sauce. A really yummy peanut butter and caramel pie thing for dessert followed by a ver generous serving of gin and tonic.....and a cheeky chocolate too.

Had a lovely night which is the main thing :-)

Tomorrow will be back to normal

Thank you, yes! It really was possible to enjoy myself on two small drinks rather than four large ones! And the result was I didn't go into 'agh to hell with it' mode when seconds were offered - AND no hangover, bonus!

Great plan Eleanor

Keep it simple.... Have a regular portion of the meals and one glass of wine ost of all enjoy your friends and night out.

How did it go?

Hi I totally understand i used to resent nights out as I knew I could be tempted to just eat socially and not because I was hungry. Then wish I hadnot. Now I eat sparingly during the day if it's a buffet fill up with salad and one of everything I choose. With a bit more walking next day and a lower calorie total ....the effects soon go. I don't weigh myself til day 4 after the treat day then I don't feel i have failed:) you need to enjoy yourself too.
