Losing Weight Very Slowly? Please Feel Smugboots - You're Winning!!

This Postette is addressed to all those of you who sometimes feel that the whole darned process of losing weight is Taking Just Too Darned Long! If the general trend is downwards you're doing fabulously. I have just been replying to a Dear Comrade in our March Towards Health about what she considered to be her small weight loss...

... But her 2.25 pound loss is the equivalent of more than two full tins of baked beans!

I'm asking you this weekend to recognise your achievements by 'wearing' your last weight loss for a few hours. No, this Wrinkly Old Girl hasn't lost the plot quite yet. Please open your food cupboards/ larders/ raid your shelves - whatever - to collect together some packets or tins which are the equivalent of you recent loss, pocket them or find a plazzy bag, and carry these equivalent weights around with you until the afternoon. Then take them off. THAT'S what you've achieved and it's huge. Slowly and steadily wins the race and sometimes that race is so slow that we fail to recognise what we have achieved.

BTW. Some of us get Very Hacked Awf when the scales show a mysterious increase in weight when we have been Trying Hard, but hang on in there. There can be many reasons for a short-term weight gain: drinking water for instance, which most of us don't do enough of, but it will show in the scales, so don't be put off, that's not fatty tissue - slug your water; it will sluice out the nasties. Also, our weight can fluctuate from day to day; it's the general trend over a number of weeks we need to concentrate on.

Please remember that unless our doctor has specifically told us to be in a hurry, ANY progress we make which is part of a maintained progress in weight loss is a Huge Achievement, so pat yourself on the back, smile and...

BE SMUGBOOTS - YOU'RE WINNING!

Have a Great Weekend. love Betty

Another Smugboots here

I came along here early last year at 18 st and thought it was going to take forever at times to lose any significant weight. But here I am now...almost at 2 st gone :)

Oh my golly GosportNancy, I'd have to empty out and wear the entire contents of my fridge to equivalence that. HUGE congratulations!!

It's so important to be in a community like this, isn't it? BB x

Brilliant! πŸ‘πŸ˜„

Thanks so much, Darling. I've put on a bit again this morning! Could tell myself it's the drink of water but more likely to be wine and crisps over Strictly last night...

Bet Darcy doesn't crunch crisps and slurp wine...

Have a good day! BB x

Not just recent loss, but there was a great post a while back where someone's adult daughter had insisted on a piggyback - so she could say to her mum "and that's how much weight you've lost"...

BerlinBetty profile image
BerlinBettyVisitorβ€’ in reply tocheritorrox

Now that's a brilliant move, though wearing one's daughter even for a short while, is hard penance! Young ones really hold the mirror up for you to goggle in for warts n'all images, don't they? BB x

Thank you Alli_B62, though if you forget you're wearing two packets of cheddar in your bumly pockets the neighbours can stare so... this I know from face-reddening experience. BB x

With sympathy for forum member who cannot lose weight easily... I have lost about two stone in about five months.

I lost a stone at two pounds a week.

I have lost one pound per week for the last twelve weeks.

This was as a sedentary, inactive powerchair user... and I have had a disabled badge for over four years.

Now the Cardios have now changed my pacemaker, and fitted an additional atrial lead, so, for the last week or two, I have been able to walk.

I could lose weight faster, but I am not desperate to lose weight quickly - and I want an easy transition to maintaining.

Thank you and Go, Russet!!

But then everything is, isn't it, both in the garden and along the road as we drive. Beautiful season, and cooler air to inspire and beckon us on to more activity...

... so getting off this chair and striding out would be good. Come on Betty....

Morning Berlinbetty

This is fantastic read. I only lost 1lb ist week & put back 2nd week & got 3 n 1/2 stone to loose.

But think eating too much ? So back drawing board & reading book again .

Thanx for this😁

It's hard isn't it, when we are trying and feel we are making progress and then that cruel mistress, the weighing machine, tells us otherwise. Just keep telling yourself that if you're eating better/less and exercising more there's an underlying progress lurking beneath the surface.

Sometimes it lurks very deep! BBx

Awesome post! I am a very slow loser (and lapsed water drinker), but I am learning to have patience with it and sometimes 1/4lb a week is perfectly fine.

BerlinBetty profile image
BerlinBettyVisitorβ€’ in reply to

Well Done You! That's more than I manage some weeks.

A quarter of a pound. That's so reminiscent of going to a sweet shop when I was little:

'A quarter of a pound of blackcurrant and liquorice please!' My idea of heaven as a nipper. Problem is that's still my idea of heaven! Down Betty, down...

Have a good week.

BB (continually lapsed water drinker and would-be cruncher of sweeties) x

I used to love a quarter of barley sugars and cola cubes. Soo good!

I was eating chips and cheese during Strictly last night, so I stayed off the scales today...

Barley sugars and cola cubes !! Such happy memories.

These were innocent pleasures compared to what we are all up against nowadays: lismcl, you've got me thinking...

What a wonderful post, think I'm a bit too old to carry around the weight I have lost, in bags, although I did before didn't I on my body!!!! Wow!!!

Took advice on the post you wrote about dancing though just around the kitchen. Like they say on strictly, "Keep Dancing"πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ

I'm SO glad that's working for you - so many of us are dancing around in a glorious Worldwide Silent Disco.

BOTHER, it's raining outside. That means my satellite dish is wet. That means no Results Show for me tonight.

There are disadvantages to living on the continent. Enjoy for me?

love BB
