This Postette is addressed to all those of you who sometimes feel that the whole darned process of losing weight is Taking Just Too Darned Long! If the general trend is downwards you're doing fabulously. I have just been replying to a Dear Comrade in our March Towards Health about what she considered to be her small weight loss...
... But her 2.25 pound loss is the equivalent of more than two full tins of baked beans!
I'm asking you this weekend to recognise your achievements by 'wearing' your last weight loss for a few hours. No, this Wrinkly Old Girl hasn't lost the plot quite yet. Please open your food cupboards/ larders/ raid your shelves - whatever - to collect together some packets or tins which are the equivalent of you recent loss, pocket them or find a plazzy bag, and carry these equivalent weights around with you until the afternoon. Then take them off. THAT'S what you've achieved and it's huge. Slowly and steadily wins the race and sometimes that race is so slow that we fail to recognise what we have achieved.
BTW. Some of us get Very Hacked Awf when the scales show a mysterious increase in weight when we have been Trying Hard, but hang on in there. There can be many reasons for a short-term weight gain: drinking water for instance, which most of us don't do enough of, but it will show in the scales, so don't be put off, that's not fatty tissue - slug your water; it will sluice out the nasties. Also, our weight can fluctuate from day to day; it's the general trend over a number of weeks we need to concentrate on.
Please remember that unless our doctor has specifically told us to be in a hurry, ANY progress we make which is part of a maintained progress in weight loss is a Huge Achievement, so pat yourself on the back, smile and...
BE SMUGBOOTS - YOU'RE WINNING!
Have a Great Weekend. love Betty
