Need to start (somehow) and soon!

Desperately need to lose around 2 stone, preferably by February...I've done it once, and I can do it again. However, this time I just have ZERO motivation. I know I need to do it, I know how to do it, but can I get my mind in gear to actually do it? Absolutely not.

Any tips on how to get going when really all I want is a good old jam doughnut *sigh, I must resist*

Hello hjt and welcome to our friendly forum

You say you want to loose weight preferably by February. Is there an event happening around that time that you can use for motivation? I there something that you really want to do that you could promise yourself if you loose the weight?

I would suggest you spend some time having a really good read on this forum. Take a look at the Daily Diary for some inspiration for some meals. Look in the recipe section too. Make a list of all the tasty things you come across and go and shop for it all. Those donuts won't taste as good as healthy will :) Why not take a look at the Challenges we have to offer and see if they can get you motivated - they're really not hard and once you feel that you are achieving something the rest just may fall into place :)

Why not start your journey right now and go along to today's weigh in - here is the link - healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hello hjt92. Like lucigret I wonder what you February deadline thingy is all about. It's maybe a Big Thing in your mind but not big enough to get started now? So I'm taking a wee bit of a Pot Shot and guessing it might be An Occasion when you want to look a Certain Way for a Person or People. First thing to sling out there is the notion that you HAVE to do this for yourself and months slip by very quickly so you might be telling yourself that you have Halloween, Guy Fawkes and Christmas coming up so you REALLY start in January. Please start NOW because the mental habit and the emotions which go with Slow but Sure Success don't come overnight, so putting pressure on yourself in New Year, when it's dark and mizzy is - forgive me - a bummer of an idea.

At the risk of repeating myself tediously this week, please start with Glorious, Fun, Exercise. When we have been wallowing around a lot on various wallowy things (beds, sofas, saggy office chairs, the dog...) our bodies are sluggish and process food - and ideas! - slowly and ineffectually. Start by moving around more than you usually do. Dance, trot up and down any stairs, go for a walk with a pal. Then after a few days your body will start to feel charged with more energy, your mind will be stimulated, and hopefully you'll start to find the seeds of motivation growing. It's a terrible cliché, Darling, but the only person who can make you succeed is You! Why look at February as your goal when you could be looking drop-dead gorgeous under the Christmas tree (well not exactly UNDER the tree - that suggests too many mojitos...)

Good luck, Sweetie; we are all behind you. BB x

You can do it if you really want it. I am in the exact same boat. But if you have a goal it will make it that little bit easier. My plan is to start up swimming and also some gym classes.

Start small. If you want a doughnut have one. But then just look at your other meals and snacks and make them healthier. It’s not as clean cut as changing everything straight away. Look at what your favourite foods and snacks are. If they are all sugary treats then look at healthier options. I.e low fat biscuits/ treats. Good luck

I agree with precious posts, start small and attain a few mini goals, but if you REALLY want that donut dont deny yourself as I’m a believer that those foods instantly become more tantalising once we deny it which makes us feel doubly worse for having eaten it, which feeds into that vicious circle of eating because you feel low and like a failure and because you feel that way you eat more of those foods for comfort! Break the chain - eat the thing and then think about how to burn it off - theres an app i use called seven - its an exercise app and its 7 mins! I use the free workout and its not too much to do to start off with, then theres theC25K app, i ise the mini challenges on my fitbit app too !

Set yourself

Little goals to achieve each week as that works for me - i like ticking things off ! 😂 you can do it xx
