Hey Everyone, I’m very new. Know it doesn’t sound like much to you guys. I’m 10 days into a VLCD. Specifically 800 to 1k cal a day. Can already feel difference. Goal is 8 wks then start diet. If Naked & Afraid people can go 21 on next to nothing, I can do this. I have a nice home, plenty clean water, a/c etc etc. They are really roughing it. After 8 weeks I think I will kick start new food attitude. You folks are amazing Thank you is understatement Gary

Hi WeentziDad, Welcome to the forum. I don't know how much weight you have to lose, but a very low calorie diet of 800 calories is rather drastic and hard to maintain. You are much more likely to lose weight if you do so gradually. Our bodies need healthy nutrition for us to enjoy good health. If you aim to lose 1-2lb a week, you will be able to eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, dairy, meat rice, pasta. It is the way we cook our food that is often to blame for weight gain. Changing frying to boiling, grilling, and baking will help you lose weight. Then the only things you need to limit is sugar and fat. Don't add butter, limit cheese to once a week use skimmed or semi skimmed milk or try a non dairy milk such as almond milk. It is great on cereals and only a quarter of the calories of semi skimmed. Not very nice in tea or coffee though. Plan your meals in advance. By doing this, it really is more achievable because you are not starving yourself. Looking at your name, I assume you are male. If so, it is even more drastic to reduce to 800 calories than if you were female. I know how it feels to want to lose weight as fast as possible and VLCD, sound just the thing to get there, but it is most unlikely that you will be able to sustain such a low intake for more than 3 or 4 weeks.
Everyone has a different story. I’ve lost 60 lbs in 4 months on 1100-1300 cal a day, the reason I’ve lost so much is low carb- average about 70g per day. I do think this is healthier than vlcd. Remember to take vitamin and mineral supplement with food, 30 min hiit per day and weights 3 x a week as nhs advises
Interested to hear how it goes. Dr Michael Moseley has researched this and is all for it, so good luck!
