Hello!!!!!

Hello everyone I'm star and new on here today. I've just turned 40 and I've overcome a lot of issues I had from past experiences although I still struggle at times and now I need to deal with my size/weight. I am desperate to get back to a size 10 again, I know I can do it but mentally I struggle to accept I can do it and hate myself for the lack of self motivation, I remembered this evening that my mum is on a support and motivational forum and she has spoke in the past of how it's good to share support with others in a similar position and sometimes needs a kick up the backside along with the 'you can do it' attitude : ) so here I am finally, and I have a very good feeling that you guys are going to be amazing with motivation. If my mum can look how she does now (which is truly amazing and beautiful by the way) then I'm sure I can follow in her footsteps : )

Star76 Motivation has already kicked in by you posting on the forum, hopefully the support from here will help to keep the motivation going.

Doubtless one of our fabulous admin team will post all the information you will need to access the different areas on the site

First thing I am going to say to you is don't think about this as going on a diet but changing your way of eating to a healthier regime which is, in the long term, going to make you feel happier and fitter.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, a lot of our members have lost weight well with that.

You say you want to get back to being a size 10 but you don't give any details of how much you have got to lose to do that. You also say that you have just turned 40, can I be rude and ask when you were last a size 10. Only going down this route of questioning because sometimes people set themselves up for failure by setting unrealistic goals. I am now 70 and whilst I would love to be the size 8/10 that I was in my early twenties and before children came along I have long since accepted that a size 12 is what I know have to be satisfied with (I am 5'2")

You know your self and it may well be a size 10 is well achievable for you, in which case go for it.

Do you exercise, if no try to build some exercise into your life, if yes maybe try to increase your exercise or vary what you do. Your body soon gets used to the exercises you follow and introducing something different can often help

Well enough of my ramblings for now. Once again welcome to the forum and good luck. Keep posting x

Hello annde

I've downloaded the 12 week plan which I will read tonight. So I'm currently 13st 6lb and wear a size 14/16 on the bottom half and a 12/14 on the top my ultimate goal is losing the 3st 6lb. As far as exercise goes I can honestly say I don't go out of my way to do any however I have OCD and am constantly on the go cleaning daily and don't sit down until the evening so I guess I'm exercising without knowing it. I ditched the car yesterday and walked my daughter to the bus stop for school and the same today and what a killer that was lol, my problem area is the lower half more than the top so going to get a stepper for home and start using that daily. I've never been more determined before. X

Welcome to our forum.

Small steps at a time Star. I really didn't want to say "I want to lose X stone" but took baby steps and made small achievable steps. Starting at 18st 4.5lbs my first goal was to get just into the 17's then 17. 11 for the half stone etc etc. That way you are not setting yourself up to fail.

Good luck. X

in reply toCandystripe

Thank you candystripe, I take it you've reached your goal weight/size have you? Xxx

No Star, I want to lose one more stone. The seven stone was easy compared to this! Just maybe I need to go back to basics and say I want to lose 4lbs and just take those baby steps and realistic goals that I was in about!

HOWEVER, each week I have X2 personal training sessions, X2 HIIT classes and x1 boxfit class so know that my fat is muscle which weighs more. Still have to crack this though and when I return from the South of France next week I shall get stuck in.

I just know that your mum loves you, it's unconditional but just do this for yourself, nobody else.

You're a Star so of course you'll do it. Good luck. X

in reply toCandystripe

Your a true inspiration candystripe and amazing in every way. I'm in this for ME just want to look in the mirror and like what I see. If my mum can do it so can I 😊 xxx

Welcome Star! There's a weigh in today which might be a good place to say hello and share your starting weight (if you feel able) and your goals. It should be in 'events'. There's weigh ins every day so you can chose which weekday suits you, although Monday and Tuesday are full at the moment. To weigh in, just 'reply' and join the thread.

There's also a very useful 'pinned post' called hello newbies , which is worth a read.

I've found this forum is amazing - the more you put in, the more you get out - so don't hold back when it comes to commenting, replying to other people and sharing ideas - we are all here to help each other.

Wishing you a great week ahead

in reply toJiminyCricket

I will definitely have a look at doing that JiminyCricket thank you. After reading some posts and comments today I know I'm not alone and neither is anyone else your all brilliant and I'm so glad it's helped you x

Hello Hidden and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

You have had a very warm welcome there from our lovely members ☺

Take a goid look around the site, especially the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The majority of our daily weigh-in's are now full, but we still have spaces in Thursday and Saturday, which you'd be very welcome to join. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

in reply toIndigoBlue61

Thank you Anna, I shall have a good nosey around today, thanks for the support x

Hi Star, all good wishes for your healthy eating and for your 'transformation.' Take one day at a time. Sometimes when we are out, it is hard to make the best choices. Aim to eat more fruit and vegetables and move more .... activity in daily life. Whether walking (as I intend to do more of) or a particular sport, dance class or the gym ... ideally, something you enjoy. Make small changes, that will hopefully be constant in your new routine. I saw a nutritionalist recently, then have had tooth trouble (an abscess, nasty)! ... So haven't been as eating as well as I could, through feeling tired and run down. Yet, feeling a bit better, so I am back on track now. All the best to you. Xxx

in reply toBrowneyes4

Morning Browneyes4, thank you for your words of encouragement this site is fantastic. Baby steps all the way and we'll get there altogether. I've ditched my car for walking even if it's just a 10min walk to the shop and believe me it kills I'm so unfit but I'll get there. Good luck with your journey x

Welcome aboard. We are all striving here on the forum, so you will be warmed by the fellow feeling. For myself, I only left the tens behind around 50ish. Then following menopause settled down to be a twelve (occasional fourteen, especially trousers😎😎. You will find many of your fellow travellers gained weight as a result of medical problems. That happened to me in my sixties - and it has seemed impossible to shift. (Stamps foot). (Stamps foot again!). But with the help and support of this forum I am on my way. Way hay!!! So, yes, you can be ten again, and I bet you do not have too far to go... Bye the bye - you say you have a beautiful mother, clearly it is in the genes - I bet she says that she has a beautiful daughter!

in reply toLatinia

Hi Sheilamb

The support on here has blown me away you guys are just brilliant 😀 I'm a 14/16 right now and 3st over weight I'm thinking it will be easier to drop dress sizes rather obsess over the weight part. I'm very much a supporter to people so I know we will all achieve our goals together 😊 my mum loves her baby we're very close it was her who told me about this forum and how the support made her journey easier x

Hi Star,

I recently joined this group. Lovely, supportive environment. I turned 40 last year and weighed in at 13 stone 9lbs on Monday of this week, which is not good on my 5ft 3 in frame. It was a big wake-up call for me. I have 2 daughters and desperately want to be a good role model for them and promote healthy eating and fitness. My aim is to get down to 10 stone but my first goal is to get below 13 stone which I haven't been for about 4 years now. I am counting calories and just joined a gym (induction this evening eek!).

Good luck with your journey.

Nicky

in reply togemini76

Hi Nicky

I'm 5'4 and 13st 6lbs so we're about the same and I'm also aiming for 10st 😀 I thought about joining the gym but I hate being around people lol I found a 24hr gym but I live in the middle of nowhere and it's 20 miles away so not a viable thing for me to do I'm gutted though I thought if I went at 3am no one would see my wobbly bits lol 😂 I'm just going to buy a stepper it's my bottom half that's the problem. I have 2 girls aswell 17&9. How did the induction go. X

gemini76 profile image
gemini76 in reply to

Hi Star,

Thanks for your reply. The gym induction went well. Got a programe booked in next week then the real work can begin 💪😅. I've tried exercise machines at home - i've had a cross trainer, treadmill, exercise bike but I just can't motivate myself at home. I just end up sitting on the sofa watching TV! Getting out to the gym will be good for me aswell. I managed to find a nice gym at a local hotel and it doesn't get too busy (and isn't frequented by the usual 'gym bunny' types - no offence to anyone else reading this post). My bottom half is my problem area too!

Be good to see how we both get on going forward being of similar age, weight & height.

Good luck!

Nicky

How was day 1?

in reply toMinniewinny

Day 1 was really positive, ditched the car in favour of walking (never do that) had porridge for breakfast which was surprisingly ok (I don't eat breakfast) ate fruit over salt and vinegar crisps and had a lovely fish dinner with rice mixed with peppers and onion 😀 I feel brilliant today and already been for a walk 😊 my heads definitely in the right place so it's onwards and upwards no going back now. Bring on the little black dress at Christmas 🤗 how are you doing? X

in reply toMinniewinny

It's brilliant that we can all encourage each other 😀 today very much like yesterday, I like that the porridge makes me feel fuller for longer and have a hot chicken salad for my dinner tonight was going to go for another 15 min walk but it's absolutely pouring down out there so I'm not doing that lol x

hi star76 you have taken the first step to a new you. Problems in the past caused me serious issues with my weight and now at 61 I find I have found a good place. Sharing means caring and so I hope you keep sharing and try the 12 week plan as a guideline don't beat yourself up if you have a few slip-ups just put it behind you. Imagine a box put your bad experiences in it and close the lid and move on. Good luck

Hi Minniewinny

I'm good thanks and you?

I've come to the conclusion if food is either starchy or sweet I'm not eating it, haven't weighed myself for the past week I don't want to obsess about scales, but I'm definitely feeling healthier and my jeans are slightly bigger around the waist so I must be doing something right 😀 how about you how's it going?
