I had a bad accident in autumn, lots of leg fractures and dislocations to both ankle and knee. I wasn’t little when it happened, about the 12 stone Mark but with being stuck in bed most of the time (swelling and CRPS meant I needed to keep my leg up or really suffer. My family are feeders too. I put on over 2.5 stone. So now I am much more mobile. I spend all day moving and trying to do things I was doing before. I am being really careful about what I eat as well as portion size. If I have to snack, it’s an apple or similar. My weight is just bouncing down a pound or two and then straight back up. I have lost overall a little bit but my daughter is getting married next April and that is my motivation. Has anyone any idea what is happening? I’ve taken measurements too but it hasn’t been a month yet since I took them so don’t want to depress myself with that as well as the scales! Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your accident and glad to know you are recovering well now. A wedding is a great motivator to keep you focussed on losing the weight.
We have put together a Newbie pack with all the information you will need to find your way around the forum and to get you started. Spend a few minutes to read through all the information as it is important to help you enjoy the best things the forum as on offer. The link is below:
You've had a very nasty experience; good to hear you are now getting mobile and are able to take charge of your food - it's not just your family, I think it's quite common to want to feed people when they are ill, it's meant kindly but the end results can be anything but!
You have a good long run-up to your daughter's wedding and should be able to make great inroads into your weight by then
When I read your post it reminded me of what my niece has been through over the last nine months. She had broken her ankle after falling off a big rock in Sweden and has had to have a number of operations to get it right. Just like you our tendency as her family was to bring her sweet treats and stodgy food and she quickly put on weight and feared it would be hard to shift.
She's quite a disciplined person so kindly told us not to bring her any more treats and instead bring her a nice magazine or something. She calculated her calories needed in a day as being bed bound with her ankle, she found an app online however the bmi calculator on NHS lose weight website that I have used is good too. (At first I'd been losing weight by really restricting my calories but after using that and seeing what my intake is I feel a lot better.) Anyway she tried where she could to stick to that and looked up you tube exercises for people recovering from injury i.e wheel chair users and she is looking really good and finally walking with just a splint.
I'm sorry you have been through so much, you've been through a tough time please don't be too hard on yourself, my niece still has flashbacks to the accident and still needs to watch her mind and concentrate on getting better. You will heal in time and there will be plenty of scope for getting fit again. Just do what you can and nurture yourself. When you are recovering try and see it as a time to do some of the things you've always wanted to do for example she got into making beautiful crafty, arty things with her sowing machine. However if you've got a family to look after I know how hard it is to find the time!
Take care and lots of lovely wishes for your full recovery xx
Getting mobile again is rough- after a six week stint off my feet I felt pretty weak and sore when I got back to walking, so I can only imagine you're having a tough time too. Be patient!
Walking again, preparing your own food, going to the shops etc is very exciting at first, so enjoy getting your mojo back!
Anyway, I'm trying to lose weight too so I don't have any advice on that front. I'm just so thrilled for you that you're ok and slowly getting back to your life.
I feel for you I really do 😕 I had a serious motorbike accident almost 40 years ago and had multiple fractures. I managed to recover well and keep my weight down(ish) with a combination of diet and exercise, but eventually it caught up with me.
Ankles in particular are very vulnerable to any excess weight, the nearer to a healthy weight the better.
Unfortunately I am now paying the price for not keeping my weight down. Fingers crossed I am now going the right way, if I can lose weight so can you 😊
Please ask if you have any questions, we are very friendly forum as you can see!!
