Well folks, after yesterday morning's jog, i figured I needed to mix up the excercising so as not to do any damage - legs are abit sore. anyway, I figured a brisk walk this morning over the fields would work. however, I must confess about 20 strides across my first field the ground was too wet and the next field below was a mud bath waiting to kills my running trainers. Sooooooooo, I did a U-turn, turned to walk back home, but immediately started thinking of an alternative. The bike!, Yes, so the bike that's in the shed and hasn't been ridden for about 10 years is getting the once over today....making sure its ready for action this evening, or tomorrow morning. The other good thing was that once i got home I figured rather than waste the effort of getting up to do something I got youtube going on the phone and copied a few strengthening exercises - doing small reps of crunches - found a new crunch lying flat on your back, hands flat on the floor, knees bend and curl up towards your chest...not much strain on your back!!, press ups, and squats/lunges....can still feel yesterdays' run on the lunges bit, but good to work the muscles again I guess. Anyway, it got my heart rate right up - sweating like a lab rat - and learnt a new crunch, which I really like. so all in all what was an immediate negative due to the wet ground conditions turned into 3 positives - 1) the bikes coming out the shed today/tomorrow - so mixing up my range of exercise options. 2) I've done my first strength/exercise session and 3) I've learnt a new crunch, which is really easy on the back...not like traditional sit ups. Your back stays flat on the floor while you curl your knees upwards towards your chest, hands lying flat on the floor left and right of your waste. Give it a go. Will be dusting down the bike and pumping up any flat tyres shortly. adios

I'm just really on it. I honestly can't believe it. Started tuesday and have really got into the whole thing. I'm sure I'll hit a mental wall/challenge at some point, but at the moment i'm out the traps and feeling really positive, which is great. Plan to keep this momentum going and investing in efforts to do things, make positive steps. I think if I get the bike out the shed and get it ready for riding that will be another big plus point. Then with that will come a lot of benefits of getting out on it, and an alternative means of exercise to the running and brisk walking. Life is good.
Why not join our exercise challenges and log your exercise kilometres and minutes, it might help to keep the motivation going?
sounds good. where do i sign up?
Well done chumalunga. I love reverse crunches as it doesn’t hurt the back at all, but if your anything like me you may feel it in your abs tomorrow 😂 xx
Yeh I must confess I'm feeling abit stiff n sore before bed. I could do with getting on the bike to mix things up more.
Yeh, never done them before. A new crunch to my bow....so to speak. Quite enjoyed them.
Well done for not just going home and sitting down with a cup of tea I like the Leslie Sansone happy walks on youtube. Great for wet days and they are quite energetic. Good luck with getting back on the bike, I am sure you will find some muscles you had forgotten about
All sounds brilliant and positive. I like the way you have turned around setbacks into something good.
With my sensible head on.... do make sure that you take certain days off to rest your body and mind
Amazing! Inspiration for starting couch to 5k tonight!
Stacey, I had a fit bit watch for xmas off my brother - i think he was trying to encourage me to exercise again. Having signed up to this site and generally made a lifestyle change and commitment I've started wearing the watch as well - albeit 4 months late!! I've found the watch to be brilliant. It records everything I do exercise wise and you can input your weight and set goals. I'm basically looking to lose 2 stone and get within my bmi. I was lucky as I got mine as an xmas present, but having used the watch this week I'd strongly recommend one. They not only give you a grasp of what your body's doing exercise wise, but generally act as a great tool to track whatever you're trying to achieve. I can monitor my weight loss and incremental improvements in fitness, distance ran, walked, steps etc etc. In short they're another massive motivator as you can see what you're achieving other than feeling good and walking round the sore limbs n legs
