After work I asked my seven year old if she wanted to come walking or bike ride with me but she said no. So I resigned myself to 40 mins on my treadmill. Ten mins later she said she does want to go for a walk... To the local park! So I figured more exercise the better and made a deal that we would go to ALL the local parks and she can have five or so mins in each one. That way I get more walking in!
Well we had a lovely time! The sun was shining but it wasn't too hot. But most of all I ran! Lots! As she was excited to go to different parks. And we played "the floor is lava" - if you don't know it, it's where one of you shouts "the floor is lava" and then you got five seconds to get off the ground. So I was having to jump on benches or climb up rope frames or even hang on a tree branch!
We had lots of fun but best of all was just noticing how much fitter I was to do all that! Before I used to reluctantly plod along - running for more than a minute would have been uh-uh no way. And then I'd sit and read a book or be bored pushing the swing etc.
So I'm really pleased! And when we got home and my daughter went outside on her trampoline and yelled "best day ever!!" That was an even greater feeling!!

Oh that all sounds wonderful, especially the last bit, best day ever ! So pleased you were able to have such as lovely time, and all those extra steps, result ! x
Lovely. It just goes to show that you do not have to spend lots - or even anything - for your children to have a wonderful time. Those are the special days that they will always remember. Heaps healthier for both of you too. Better than sitting in a cinema with popcorn and fizzy drinks. I really enjoyed reading your post.
Aww thank you! Unfortunately my 12 year old is already a classic teen - ie stays in her room all day, doesn't want to be seen out with mum, refuses all chores.
So I will enjoy these days with my youngest as much as I can!
It makes me so happy reading this so i can only imagine how happy you were to experience it in my admittedly limited experience, kids love nothing more than when they're parents actually join them in their play and how wonderful that you can see your own progress and feel fitter
It's a great feeling playing with the kids. I took my 7 year old and 6 week old to the park a couple of days ago. After a feed she slept for over an hour in the pram whilst my son and I did goalkeeper practice. A bit of moving around for me and two happy children. Can't beat it.
