The NHS BMI calculator is the best place to be advised on what calorie range to aim for.. start at the higher range and gauge your needs from there..

Please check with your health professional regarding your actions to lose weight and get their support locally to compliment this wonderful forum...

Hi Chrissyg66 .

Be guided by the NHS calculator and don't be tempted to undercut it. Be prepared for it to take time to reach your target, but sticking with a healthy eating plan will see you moving in the right direction. You'll see other benefits along the way such as more energy and feeling better in your clothes long before you reach your end goal, and this forum will support you all the way :)

The reason Minnie and Mary have both mentioned the NHS BMI calculator is that 1700 looks much too low.

If you want this to work you need to start off on the right foot. Nearly all short cuts will lead to failure.

Best of luck!

Trying to make this journey as easy as possible helps us to stick with it all. My suggestion would be to give that a couple of weeks and then if you find your weight doesn't budge on the new level you can think about dropping it down a hundred or so.

The good thing, is that this isn't a race so you can take your time to find what's best for you.
