Waking up starving in the early hours?

I'm wondering why I wake up intensely hungry about 2-4 in the morning, I eat 1600-1700 calories, is there something I'm doing wrong?

What are you eating shortly before you head to bed?

Hi PheonixJo,

I know you say that you have to eat late, due to work and then have to go to bed, but is there any chance of you eating a little earlier, and then having a small snack when you get home?

This might stop the hunger pang!

Rob :P

What about a larger meal earlier in the day? At lunchtime, for example?

Although eating at a large meal at work may prove difficult, it may be worth attempting to eat something more substantial earlier in the day before you start your work, opting to snack upon nuts and yoghurt during your shift, for example.

Upon returning home, aim to consume something that contains protein, as it'll be broken down by the body slowly as you sleep.

A favourite of mine when I worked shifts (and even now) was to prepare a hot milk chocolate, using chocolate flavoured whey powder, helping to provide a welcome treat before heading to bed.

Sounds nice that does

How do you make it

I'll mix 300-350ml of milk with a scoop of whey powder in a shaker and heat it gently in the pan (I used to have a microwave, but the dog ate it), stirring frequently with a whisk, to ensure that the whey powder doesn't seperate.

Indeed she did. In addition to damaging a double socket and the plugs attached to it, along with the kitchen door stencil.

Thankfully, the RCD tripped on the fuse board, meaning that my house was still standing when I returned home from work around two years ago.

Still, she cost my wife and I around £300 to correct the damage, which is somewhat below the £1200 she cost in vets bills a couple of Xmas' previous, when she devoured the turkey carcass (which was thankfully claimed back though pet insurance).

Heya. you might want to do your bmi to work out your calorie allowance. 16-1700 sounds low. if you work it out and you ARE eating enough, it could be you are getting low blood sugar in the night, which can happen. i get this every night about 3am and have to eat something to get back to sleep. i recommend a portion of high protein yogurt like skyr or total, and a drizzle of honey. i find this fills me up for the least calories and doesnt effect my sleep.

Hope you can sort it out.

are you taking any medication which increases your appetite? This could be why. if you wake up hungry it could be low blood sugar. A milky drink at bedtime and a carb supper may help so you feel full before you sleep.

I take a medication for anxiety bit not sure if if increased hunger

Could this be related to blood sugar ? Would a small snack or supper at bed time help at all ?

I keep wondering about my blood sugar actually but Drs have tested and my sugars are normal
