I am new to this!

But I am a 32M who is currently 220KG, I am hoping 2018 will be the year I get fit and healthy. I have a young son and want to be around for as long as I can!

Any tips for someone who probably drinks to Much and eats to much Fast Food???

Hi gazW1F and welcome to the weight loss forum.

You are invited to join our Newbie Club, where you can meet other new members who are just beginning their weigh loss journeys too. Here's the link for all the information you will need to find your way around the forum:

Write a brief note to introduce yourself to other newbies and I'm sure you'll be making friends, in no time.

Good luck with your first week.

Hi gazW1F and welcome.

Maybe as a start, try logging what you eat and when, so you start by being realistic and honest with yourself, and then make some decisions about the changes you're going to make. Think positive: yes, you'll need to ditch the fast food if that's what you've been living on, but there's a world of tasty food out there that you're going to enjoy!

Your young son is a big incentive for you so keep him in mind when things get tough or you start to backslide. Also, think about the eating example you're giving him and how you can help him to establish a healthy eating way of life.

I've found the NHS 12 week programme really useful - it's not a diet but a guide to healthier eating and living.

If you get involved in this forum, you'll get lots of ideas and encouragement. Good luck :)

Welcome Gaz. Follow the link that Rose has supplied, read all that and try to take it all in, including the links there.

I know, info overload and it won't all sink in but it's a start. If you've got any questions at all just post them on here and someone will always reply no matter what they are.

Like marymanc has already said, you may want to pay particular attention to the NHS 12 week plan which has helped many of us here.

Good luck!

Thanks all for the welcome!

I will be starting with the NHS 12 Week Plan and hope to get more involved in the forum after Christmas!

Have a good Christmas all!

Welcome Gaz, I think you have answered your own question - fast foods are not good for you. There are all kinds of unhealthy ingredients and most have hidden sugars or sweeteners.

Just decide what you are prepared to do and stick with it. Come on here regularly for support and inspiration and I am sure you will start to see progress. You are so right to think about the future for you and your son together.

Hi. I too am a newbie and just getting used to the forum. I lost 3.5 stones with Slimming World, but after family bereavements (8 in one year!), I have put all the weight back on and am disgusted with myself. My son is 31 and has neurodermatitis, he lives with me and has become a virtual recluse, no friends and no family other than myself. I need to lose the weight to be there for him as long as possible. I know my main stumbling block is the booze, I am not an alcoholic and can exist without it, but whenever I go out I cannot visit a pub and sit drinking water. When I lost the weight my willpower was strong and after a couple of months I kicked the habit as the weight reduced and gave me more incentive. I have booked myself on to an NHS-run wellness course from January and have signed up for "Dry January" online. 2018 WILL be my turning point to getting healthier! The forum here is so good to use as a "sounding board", we're all in it together whatever your circumstances. Good luck with your weight loss journey, and do try the "Dry January" web page as a starting point ;) x
