It dawned on me I have a real problem when I start looking for lifts instead of taking stairs😱 I gave up smoking anout 8 years ago and that was the start I’ve put on 6 stone since then. I don’t suit the weight I feel unwell and have wardrobes of clothes I can’t wear👀
I tried Slimming World but I was putting on not losing and felt too embarrassed to go back.
What encouraged you to be determined to change things?

I am not medically trained but do wonder if you may have breathing problems brought on by all the smoking in the past? Just a suggestion.
Are you involved with this forum? If not, I suggest you do get involved as this would be a really good beginning to feeling better about yourself. You are certainly not alone so bear that in mind
Firstly, you deserve huge congratulations for giving up smoking. That is such a difficult and big step towards healthy living.
At the risk of sounding like an advert for this forum, the one thing that made me determined to change things was 'this forum' OR in effect, the people that make this forum. I suspect that like a lot of people here I started off determined but I'm pretty sure that without this forum, that within a week or three I would have been sliding backward into failure... again, again, again.
It's nearly all about staying in contact with this forum and trying to join in as much as possible. Daily reading of the posts here, on its own, can be a really big help and it's my opinion that the more you put in here the more you'll get out.
When an administer replies... take in what they have written... follow the link... read everything after that link.
That's not meant to sound dramatic but laying a strong foundation for your journey is a great way to start and the more information we can gleam then the better decisions we are likely to make.
Congratulations for quitting smoking.. Great achievement!
My motivation comes from wanting good health and avoiding diabetes & heart problems, there's too much in my family.
Welcome and Enjoy the forum...
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we trust will be a good place for you to connect with other members, who like you are also just starting out on this forum. Please post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon realise the encouragement and support this forum offers.
In my case, I am inspired to lose weight by my daughter's Graduation next year. I envision myself wearing a smart suit on that day, head held high, feeling so proud of myself.
I don't really know if/when I would ever have addressed my weight, had it not been for this.
I have done Slimming World too, and although it's effective for many people, it just wasn't right for me.
Rest assured that there is absolutely no 'embarrassment factor' on this forum, just constant advice and encouragement from lovely people who have all 'been there'.
Wishing you the very best of luck in reaching your weight loss goal.
Welcome Louisthecat and congratulations on giving up smoking!
For me, it was more about health than losing weight. I was huffing and puffing my way through the short walk between the train station and my office every morning and realized that I was in horrible shape and needed to get healthy. Part of that was losing weight, which is when I found the NHS 12 week plan. I got through the 12 week program really well, but realized I had farther to go and could use some help. Which is when decided to have a look at this forum. There've been ups and downs (life keeps going on after all), but I definitely do better when I'm active here.
I think it's about finding what's important to you and using that as your motivation. I still have a ways to go, but I'm much fitter and healthier (and lighter! ) since I started, nearly 2 years ago.
Good luck!
I was just tired of feeling fat. I want to love myself again.
Congratulations on quitting smoking , That's the hardest battle you'll ever fight. I did it after 50 years smoking. Unfortunately I left it too late and have COPD but. I take comfort from imagining the state I would be in now if I hadn't quit 12 years ago. However to answer your question I embarked on my weight loss journey when I tired of seeing my wardrobe filled with clothes I couldn't wear. Good luck🤗
