Over300lbs and desperate

Feeling uber low about my weight. I know what to do, but mentally can’t get my head in the right space. Which approach do I take? Also I never feel full.... hoping here might help and hopefully meet a few online friends 😊

I'm the same, I need to get in the right head space, I'm going to clean out my cupboards and fridge January 1st and do meal planning and prep... Someone said to me "Maybe you're not hungry you're thirsty" so upped my water intake... I also find Psyllium husks mixed with water and making chia pudding fills me up. Fingers crossed for both of us cos I'm sick of feeling tired and aching

Hey so great to have a reply 😊I’ve been in the same boat asking for a seat belt extender. Mortified. It’s putting me off going abroad next summer. Love your thinking of clearing out cupboards.

Hello and welcome, Nowornever88 :)

Not feeling full is such a common reason for packing it in, even when weight loss is so important. For me, what has made the difference is finding the lower carb, higher fat approach. I feel full and satisfied, not craving or looking for snacks, and enjoying my food. I think this will be a better plan for you than calorie counting.

This explains more healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... supported by this report phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

To get the best out of the forum, I recommend joining a weekly weigh-in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary to log your meal plans and see what others are planning. The Welcome Newbies post will help you find your way around: I've tagged you there, and you will have received a welcome post which also gives you the links.

Wherever you go around the forum, I hope you will chat and support others as that's what gives us all the encouragement to reach our goals :)

Hi there. I have tried low carb in the past and didn't feel hungry or deprived, but after 4 weeks sabotaged myself as usual and returned to my unhealthy ways, I would be interested in the newbies group too, how can I find them? Thanks in advance

There isn't a newbies group as such. The Newbie Welcome post is here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and will help you find your way around.

The best way of getting to know people is by joining a weekly weigh-in on the day of your choice - we ask everyone to reply to at least three others and you will see that some members rely to everyone posting on their day. The Daily Diary is also a great place to talk about your food plans and see what others are up to. This will help you find those events healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

There are loads of other things to get involved with, from exercise to our book club to various challenges: you'll find them all in Pinned Posts.

I hope to see you at a weigh-in in the near future and wish you all the best for 2020 :)

First, don't panic! People often think there must be something wrong with their heads when they find they're gaining weight, but this is rarely the case. Unfortunately the dieticians tend to reinforce that view. Rest assured that you're not a glutton; you are not overweight because of "eating too many calories". Your body is malfunctioning due to certain things that you've been putting into it (and not putting into it) over a long period of time. Fix the malfunction and both your body and mind will get into the "right space" very rapidly.

Can you list out what you eat for breakfast, dinner, and tea? It's a little embarrassing to do this I know (it's like having someone rootle through your refrigerator) but it's worth going through things in detail. General guidelines are often misunderstood.

Your not alone with those thoughts. Don't give yourself a hard time. Set yourself a small goal daily. Never feeling full. Always have a glass of water 4 you eat. It works for me. X

I have read the other replies and good advice. I was on a plateau but the Low carb high fat seems to be resetting my eating patterns, it is not easy at first. My questions to you are: What do you need to get your head in the right place? What strategies could you use to distract you from focusing on hunger? Can you come up with a list of non food rewards for achieving your goals ( which are essential to set)?

Be realistic, your journey starts with small steps, be realistic, sometimes you will walk fast, sometimes you will run and sometimes you will get lost on the way. But the journey is always there for you to achieve and think about how you will feel when you get there!!

A journal will help you to record what you eat, recipes and tips, progress, how you feel.

Good luck with your endeavours

It sounds like you feel a bit like me, self-esteem gone AWOL, energy levels low and motivation non-existent. A journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step. Perhaps our first step should be deciding to be kind to ourselves, switch off the negative voices in our heads that offer constant self-criticism and tell us we should be able to manage things we're not able to, and switch our mindsets.

Hi, Nowornever88 , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
