what does one do when there is a table loaded down with delicious, not really healthy foods?

1. Enjoy yourself, because this special occasion only comes once a year.

2. Preplan your approach - work out what you are going to avoid and stick to it. Try to minimise the sugar and carbs as best you can.

3. Don't scrimp on the vegetables as these fill you and your plate up.

4. Don't forget point 1 above!

Good luck with it. James

Morning Hope you have a lovely time and manage to enjoy some delicious food while making some good choices :)

Whilst I was losing weight, I was way too scared to deviate from my plan and calories. I was scared that if I over indulged then that would be the prelude to letting the floodgates open and there would be no going back.

This was based on my own previous experience of me and of course, everyone is different.

sounds like me too

Whose table is it? If it's a friend's or relation's then practice your polite "not for me" or "only a little" responses when offered something, and remember to enjoy the atmosphere not just the food. Plan what you really want to enjoy. Don't deny yourself but don't at the same time be tempted to try everything. Enjoy the chitchat and the social aspects, be active, chatty, offer to help with clearing up etc.

If it's your own table then take control. Add in healthier versions of things, and place the salads/veg etc close to where you plan to sit :) Enjoy :)

thank you ruth_canal_runner, I will take your advice.

Eat it. It's one day that's special. I'm gonna feast!

I know and it is the pits. Christmas will be hard too.. but I have gotten some good advice here we can both use. smaller plates, lots of veggies and lots of conversation will keep us under some control!

Lol 😊. This was me last night . . . I just had to think really carefully about my choices, have one trip for the first course and one small plate for dessert. There were lots to choose from, it wasn’t easy, but I thoroughly enjoyed what I did have. Then walk away . . . With a drink of sparkling water and engage in conversation 😊
