Hi Cathy61, well done for taking the first step! Your Physio is right, carrying less weight will relieve some of the pressure on your hips and hopefully make it more comfortable for you to keep active and mobile. Just stick to sensible portions of fresh, healthy 'real' food (ie not processed) and you should start to see the weight shifting in no time. Best wishes
Your physio is right. Weight loss is a great cure for many ailments and your joints Wii’s reward you with less pain
Hi Cathy61.
I joined last week and I also have arthritis (in the spine). I find it hard to keep up with exercise, but have found some great people on here that are very supportive. I will be doing my first proper weigh in tomorrow so looking forward to see if this weeks efforts have made a difference.
Welcome and I am sure you will get lots of encouragement.x
I've got arthritis in my knees and hips. I've known for years that losing weight would help but I suppose I didn't really believe it in my heart- I didn't really have it as a strong motivation to lose weight.
BUT I have lost over 2 stone and WOW it has really really helped! So much less painful even with cold weather coming in. And I'm actually thinking about trying yoga which has been totally impossible before. The improvement is one ofor my main reasons to keep the weight off.
So I wish you the best of luck for your journey - and to say, for your hips, it IS worth it.
Hello Cathy61. I began losing weight consciously, at the end of January mainly because of chest pains and the fear of just dropping dead. I struggled with walking and even getting out of my car. Everything hurt. I have arthritis in my hips, knees and in the toes on my left foot. It was awful. The pain, if I walked more than 3000 steps was just dreadful and I found I was just exhausted after merely shopping at the local supermarket on a Friday night after work. I’m tall and I really did struggle with just getting around properly. At 54, that wasn’t right, so I bought a Fitbit, a second hand treadmill and started to eat fewer calories and eat healthy food only; with the very occasional treat. I’ve now lost 6st and 4 Lb and the pain in my hips and knees has improved I’d say by about 80% , if not more. I walk a lot now too and it’s an easy pastime which gives excellent results. So yes, well worth it and now, I’m in a size 16 from a 24 and loving it. The very best of luck to you. I am someone with little willpower, so it is the old adage, if I can do it, anyone can.
Wow that's amazing. Thank you so much for sharing that with me, that has truly made me aware that it is possible to change. Have a brilliant day x
