Went to see my Dr today and decided that there was no miracle cure to losing weight. Didn't want to join a commercial slimming company as they profit from my failure. Delighted to discover this resource from NHS and hope to be able to keep in touch with people across the country.

I'm 48 and need to lose 4 stone. The weight has crept on since studying for a degree and getting older. Still, my Dr made me aware of the excuses I'm making so enough is enough.

Tomorrow I shall listen to the pod casts for the couch to 5k Challenge when I'm at the gym. I love my technology and my apps and am equipped with Apple Watch and iPhone.

Just need to focus and get some support.

It's good that you will be going to the gym but remember that what you eat is more important when you want to lose weight.

Good luck to you.

Welcome! No there is sadly no miracle cure! But this forum is totally fantastic and probably the closest thing to it! Get stuck in and join in with the challenges and daily diary, pick a weekly weigh in day to join, swap recipes, comment on peoples posts and be part of the community. I seriously think that we - all of us together - are much better than a slimming club.

Remember your 4 stone didnt arrive overnight - it wont go overnight either, especially if you want it gone for good. No quick fixes either. New habits take time, its worth it.

Thanks for your support. I look forward to keeping folks updated. This seems a much healthier way to approaching a problem.

Best wishes!

Hi and welcome Diaryofanunfitmother

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS community.

We're a friendly, non-judgemental group, determined to lose weight, healthily and permanently. Most of us are following the NHS 12 week plan, details of which may be downloaded. We hope that with our support and encouragement, you'll achieve your weight loss goals.

Our Administrators are all volunteers, who are also on their own weight loss journeys and will be on hand to guide and assist, in any way possible. They will greet you with lots of information on how to get the best out of the forum and whilst it may seem overwhelming, it's important to read everything, so that your own journey will be easier and more enjoyable, from the start.

You will be awarded a newbie badge, when you join, which, as you progress, will be exchanged for weight loss badges.

We hope that you'll join one of our daily weigh-in's and at least one of our challenges.

Onwards and downwards!

Cheering you on to your goals 🎉🎉🎉

A little more information.. My first day as an admin.. L plates in place!!

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)
