Ditching my Fitbit

So since I have been using my Fitbit I’ve slowly gained a stone in weight, I think mentally I see how much I’ve burnt in the day means I could have an extra biscuit or an extra glass of wine etc so today I’m ditching the Fitbit & concentrate on my food intake by logging everything, so here goes I’ve 9 weeks to loose a stone here goes nothing 😊

It can be so tempting to use those extra calories you burn off but it is best not to. Good luck for the next 9 weeks. Maybe once your in a routine with your calories you can reintroduce your fitbit and take your exercise. :)

I’m still exercising but just need to focus on food intake I use the app my fitness pal to log food & exercise so hopefully I will be back into the swing of things in no time x

I am sure that there was a study done in the US which concluded exactly what you have found out. I love my fitbit, but I do not look at the calories. Your calculated calorie range already takes exercise into account. If you have genuinely increased your activity levels then recalculate your calories, but I would keep your fitbit to monitor activity. Just ignore the calorie estimate. I also think that it is a bit on the generous side. Good luck with it . James

Hi Ninix77,

I think you are right! We can never really 'out exercise' what we eat. Exercise only accounts for 20% of the calories we burn - the rest are just to keep us alive (breathing, digestion etc).

And then of course, the amount of calories YOU burn will differ from the amount of calories I (or someone else) burns because everyone has a different metabolic rate. So fitbits can be a bit misleading in that way.

You are absolutely spot on to keep up the activity but not focus on the calories. Btw, a little tip - use exercise to increase your overall metabolism and not to burn calories. That way, you will burn more calories even when you are sleeping. Build your muscle tone because in the muscles are little energy burning factories called mitrochondria, the more of them and the bigger they are; the more you will burn calories even at rest.

Best of luck : )
