So much to loose

Right guys. I have taken the decision not to go back to any slimming clubs. I hate hate hate them. I've been going to one or another for the past 31 years and have just got bigger and bigger.

So here's the thing. I want to loose 12 stone. I'm 50 next year, have a new born grandson and I want to be play with him.

So after years of dieting I know exactly what I should be eating. The question is can I do this with your support?

😊

Welcome to this wonderful forum Janerie and YES YOU CAN DO IT.😊😊 I am 61 and have attended all clubs out there over the last 30 years and ended up 6 stone overweight. You can do this with the great help and support on this forum. An administrator will reply to you to guide you around the site but in the meantime I suggest you look at the NHS BMI CALCULATOR which will give you a personal calorie range. I have been calorie counting and following the NHS 12 Week Healthy Eating Plan for 16 weeks and have lost 20lbs. I eat roughly 1650 calories daily making healthy food choices and drinking 2 litres of water. Set yourself mini targets of 7lbs, pick a day to weigh in on here and get started. You have so much to look forward to. Wishing you well on your journey.👍

Sure you can Janerie :)

Take it at a steady pace.

Don't push yourself to a point where you stress out if it doesn't go to plan.

Forgive yourself for any slips - What's done is done, it's been and gone. So pick yourself up, and carry on. (take that g-man lol)

We're all in this together :)

Hi and welcome Janerie Only you can put the work in, but we can support you :) Unlike slimming clubs, firstly we are here daily not just once a week :) However we ask you only weigh in once a week on the same day, so just chose your day to be your weigh in day and then use the Daily diary thread every day to post what your planned food is :)

Do the BMI calculator to get your calories range and down load the 12 week plan - this is the start of the new healthy eating

I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting.

If you just post a few words on the October Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.

Follow this link to the Newbie club:healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Please read all the information carefully, it is very useful and can be referred to whenever you want to check something.

It just remains for me to wish you well on your journey

:)

Yes you can! The group are amazing, lots of support and advice and for free 😉. Work out what your body needs each day to function then subtract 500 calories. It's a 1lb per week lose without the pressure (add exercise each day and that increases your weight lose and tones your body as you go along). Once you are in a routine you can adjust your eating and increase your exercise. Good luck!

Hello Janerie snd welcome to the forum. Well done on realising that dieting does not work. It took me longer than you, I was 54! But in the last two years I have completely turned my life around, lost weight slowly and consistently, increased my exercise (although I’m still no athelete!) and like you, have my first grandchild to inspire me to keep fit and well so I have energy to play with her 😊

Please read all the information in the Newbie Club carefully as this forum has so much useful and helpful information, but just ask if you have any questions.

Wishing you well

Anna

Yes you can! It’s true what you say, we all know what we should be eating (and what we shouldn’t!). I’ve come to realise that it’s when you decide to do it for yourself and plan ahead that it doesn’t seem to be a diet at all. Just a case of eating what we know is good for us and cutting out the stuff we know isn’t. Simple (hahaha)! It doesn’t need to be too clever or weird. Just portion control I’ve found, and plenty of veg! Good luck with your journey. You’ll soon be chasing that grandson about!

Another thing I found on here but the person who advised me of this has now left so she can't tell you so I thought I would instead, was that with weight control I was never losing weight on any diet I did because I wasn't eating enough as I was only eating around 1000cals a day, I was supposed to be eating somewhere between 1500ish and 1800ish, can't remember exact amounts. If you don't eat enough calories your body thinks you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Check out your bmi on the NHS bmi calculator and find out how many calories you should be eating between and make sure you eat somewhere between these amounts. They never give you thins information at the health clubs. As soon as I done this I started losing weight.
