Hi and welcome, Jane :)

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header, so please take the time to read it carefully.

Wishing you all the best :)

Welcome Jane.

Lots of sensible approaches. Recognising that weight loss isn't something that happens overnight, portion control and 'baby steps'.

Great start and all the best.

Dear JaneEF

Making a start is the best way to go . Have you decided on an action plan?

Really helpful to count calories and keep a food diary because you can then see clearly what needs to change

Wishing you every success

Welcome to the club, have you decided on your target weight yet? Having an overall target to reach helps to focus your mind and if its a large amount of weight loss then break the weight loss into mini-goals (maybe 7lbs every 2 months) so its not as over whelming total of weight loss as it might be.
