I am joining because I’m so fed up with feeling guilty about food and alcohol consumption. It’s my 70th birthday next year and I would dearly love to have lost enough weight to feel happy with myself but most importantly be confident that I’m in control of calorie intake. 1400 calories seems daunting at the moment but I hope it will be achievable. Please can someone tell me where I can find the daily diary. I have downloaded the app. I’m looking forward to using the forum to gain support and also possibly help others in time. Here we go 😯

Hi Chris274 I think 1400 calories is just an average figure, you can find what your personal calorie range is by using the NHS BMI calculator found here nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyw... when you have completed the form at the end you will see your BMI and beneath this your own personal calorie range. Eating between this amount will help you lose weight, you might find it is more than the 1400 average, mine is something like between 1600 & 2000.
Good luck on your journey and welcome to the forum.
Hi and welcome, Chris
First of all, I advise that you get rid of the app and use the full website page, or you'll never be able to find anything on the forum. Follow this link, then follow the link to the online community nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...
1400 calories is a generic number, so get a calorie allowance, tailored to your needs, from the NHS BMI calculator.
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header, so please take the time to read it carefully.
Wishing you all the best
Hi Chris274 . Welcome to the group. If you scroll down through the posts you will find the daily diary. The link for todays daily diary is

1400 calories may not seem like a lot, but it is still possible to have big platefulls by tricks like substituting lots of low-cal veg (e.g carrots, courgette, tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, cauli etc) for things like potatoes and pasta etc). I make big pans of vegetable casserole which last me for a day or two at a time, and add my meat etc to these (e.g. I might add an Aldi battered haddock fillet at 276 cals or some other 'meat' element).
I find exercising really helps me to lose more weight, but I just mean I do lots of walking, not heavy duty gym stuff. I bought a pedometer and a Vivo fit, which make me more aware if I have had an inactive day, and helps prompt me to get moving !
Good luck with it.
Like xvanillaskyx has said, that 1400 is a generic figure posted by the NHS. Follow the link mentioned and you may get a pleasant surprise
Thank you all for your lovely supportive replies. I will ditch the app . I would like to join the newbie group. I feel very welcomed 😊
Hi Chris274
Welcome to this great group, where you will find lots of encouragement and advice.
Best of luck in reaching your weight loss goal. ☺
If it feel daunting the 1400 calories go on the NHS BMI calculator and it will give you a upper and lower range of calories to have to loose weight. You don't want to be hungry all the time because that's when the temptation creeps in!
Welcome Chris great to have you along. .. looking forward to celebrating each success with you. Admin will answer your question.😊
