I was wondering if Shredded wheat is good for you? I have a cup before going to bed. Where it has no sugar or salt but just regular carbs. Thanks

I'm not sure. I want to know because I could have it for breakfast. I'm sure we'll get some good advice. I'm sure if it's accounted for its OK.

Good morning Wadestreet and Hidden 😊

I don't like to think of food in terms of "good" or "bad", it's more a question of balance, too much of anything will cause weight gain and be of no use to our bodies.

To lose weight we need to eat less calories, but within those calories we also need a balance of nutrients: protein, fat, carbohydrates and fibre, as well as vitamins and minerals.

Some foods have better nutrients than others, and I prefer to base my diet around these foods. Shredded wheat are a good source of slow-release carbohydrates. Portion control is the key, and that depends upon your own personal calorie target and, of course, choice.

Best Wishes

It's importAnt if you are diabetic or pre diabetic to only eat carbs which do not raise your blood sugar rapidly. The only 2 cereals which have no added sugar and come into this category are porridge oats( old fashioned large ones ) and shredded wheat

Tthere is a list of low G I and low GL foods on the Diabetic Society web site

Best wishes

The chief problem with Shredded Wheat is that it is a Nestlé product so by buying it you are supporting a profoundly unethical company who are doing so much to undermine other people's health across the globe - whether it is repeated Code-breaking marketing of infant formula or water rights or many others. Many people boycott all Nestlé-owned products (from Body Shop to Felix cat food via lots of confectionary) for this reason.

Hi GoogleMe If I was still living in UK where there is plenty of choice, then I would agree with you. But in India, there isn't much choice and plenty of Nestle products. This is where boycotting should take place but where folk would find it impossible to do. A no win situation.

I have come down from my ethical high horse with a big bump :O :D

Hi GoogleMe good to hear someone else supports my pet topic. I worked in Ethiopia many years ago and saw what the infant formula marketing can do. Personally I never drink Nescafe.

Its probably a good choice of bedtime snack as it will fill you up and stop any urges for fridge raiding! In terms of processed food, its a pretty healthy choice. Good luck!

Hi P 😚 I sometimes have a bowl of porridge before bed. I have it every morning for brekky. I've done this for many many years....guess it's the Irish and Glaswegian in ma blood ☘🇮🇪💛💚💛💚😊 I buy the porridge that's already measured into microwaveable sized portions...making the perfect sized bowl of porridge.
