So I'm trying to loose weight iv gained through medication. Iv followed a 1200 calorie diet a day and I exercise Monday to Thursday 40 minutes of Zumba. Iv done this for 2 weeks I admit I am less strict on Saturday and Sunday. I weight myself Fridays I was so excitied to get on the scales the Friday just gone after 2 weeks of trying my best! I know it's only 2 weeks but I thought the scales may have moved slightly 😔
I was gutted the scales haven't moved exercising takes a lot of effort for me because I have anaemia and low b12 so little energy I'm so sad that I found the effort to exercise 4 days of the week. Iv always been up and down with my weight and I'm at my heaviest at the moment so I worry going out and people seeing me at my heaviest when only a year ago they were saying how thin I looked. I'm at the point today where I feel like not eating at all, I have a meal out with friends that I haven't seen for years so I'm very nervous but I really don't want to cancel.
In the past iv made myself sick after meals and lost weight so I just feel like iv tried the right way and now I feel like I'm about to head down the distructive path again. I suffer from depression which is not helped by the weight gain partly caused by my depression medication.
Does anyone have any advice for me please?

This is an amazing forum to be part of. Many of people on here have different areas of concern but we are all trying to get to, or maintain, our desired weight. As you get to know us, and share experiences with us, you will find what a super supportive bunch we are, and that we don't pass judgements.
Here are a few suggestions about how to get the most out of the forum.
The first place to look is at the Pinned Posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news; and you will have important news to share with us.
Have a look at the NHS 12-week plan; many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This can be a major turning point, realising you can eat anything as long as the calories are accounted for and are within your personal limit.
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate; that happens to me quite regularly!
The forum also has group weigh-ins every day, just choose which day you wish to weigh, join the post for that day and weigh in once per week. The Daily Diary is a very useful thread where we post our planned menu for the day, including calories if you count them, any exercise you have planned and any tips that you can share. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page.
If you just want to chat, to say hello, or share any news or struggles then look out for the What's Happening Today thread. There are many other challenges to get involved with, just choose to do what you are comfortable with and feel free to join as many, or as few as you wish.
The grey box next to people's names are achievement badges, and as a new member of the community you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, you need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration, and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here regularly.
If you are using the new HU App on your mobile phone (helpful for when you are out and about), many of features mentioned are not available; use the full website version to maximise your experience.
If you have any questions please just ask. The more you join in and connect with people the more you get out of the forum.
I wish you well as you get started with a new lifestyle.
Hi thank you so much! I have read and looked at the NHS 12 week plan and looked at my calorie needs. I also have my fitness pal but that says to consume only 1200 calories for my weight. Do you know why NHS and the fitness pal app are different?
Mfp gives a very low initial allowance, then a very generous allowance for exercise. The NHS calculator gives an allowance based on average exercise done.
Both are only guidelines, but we prefer the NHS BMI calculator, which seems to be more realistic and more successful.
Ok thank you for that, I will go with the NHS advice then at least I can eat more so that's a good start lol I will try my new calorie intake and hopefully will start to loose.
Good for you. Don't forget too that exercising can build muscle which weighs more than fat, so while you haven't lost weight you might have toned up a bit. x
Hi from another newbie, I also struggle with energy levels so I can appreciate the effort that must go into doing a Zumba session, I hope you enjoy it, even if if does tire you out? I've eaten out a few times lately and have checked out the restaurant menu online before going so I can work out healthier choices without having people waiting impatiently while I make a decision. Hope you have a lovely time with your friends.
Don't despair. The scales will move again. Just keep it up and don't resort to bad habits. I know. I was anorexic when I was about 36.iost weight and got excited so I just kept going until people wanted to admit me to a clinic. I thought I looked great. I'm starting to get like that again but we are both fat again so we know that doesn't work in the long run. Do it healthy and it will stay off for good. Good luck to you!
Yes definitely change the amounts you are eating to the amounts advised by the NHS bmi calculator to be able to lose weight as I used to not enough and never lost weight on any diet I ever done in the past and this was because your body thinks you are starving it and turns what your eating into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. I made this same mistake for years so please don't make this mistake. Good luck with your journey.
Thank you so much everyone for all your advice and help. Just another little question would it best to try and stick to the general 1400 calories the NHS says. Or should I try and eat the calories from the personalised NHS BMI calculater which is 1600 for me? I know it's only 200 calorie difference but I guess it all adds up. Thank you xx
