Hi all,

New to this and wanting to start tomorrow! Anyone have any tips following the 12 week plan? I'm a good 10 stone over weight and have struggled to complete any diet over the last 10 years.

Hi Workingonit and welcome

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Cheering you to success to reach your goals 🎉🎉🎉

Hiya,

Welcome to the group lots of lovely people on here and everyone is supper supportive.

The best tips I can give, I found they worked well for me, is to plan your meals in advance. You can use the Daily Dairy on here which is really good and you can share with everyone your meals for the day.

Also I found using small plates helped me cut my portions down!

Don't feel down if you have an off day, just shake it off and forget about it, were all human but just keep going.

Good luck I'm sure you will do fab 😃

hi , good luck, the 12 week plan best diet ive ever followed, i find planning in advance is the best, have lots of fruit and i make up a batch of low calorie jelies, and ice lollies in fridge. i find i used to snack loads at the beginning but as i get used to it, i dont so much and go for the heathlier options, i keep a book and log everything i eat. i also put a pound in a pot for every pound a lose and a fiver for a stone. it helps me focus and have nice treats as you see the weight come off and the pot fill off, good luck if i can do it anyone can.

I like your incentive of £1 for every pound and £5 for each stone 👍

You've come to the right place for accountability a d support. Good luck to you!

Hi there Workingonit when I first joined I also had never managed to lose weight on diets either and found that this was because I was not even eating enough calories. I only seemed to eat around 1000 Cals a day. Do have a look at how many you are even eating in general. Also have a look on the NHS bmi calculator at how many calories you should be eating to be able to lose weight as this site gives personal amounts for each person and most of the other sites give average amounts for women and men. These amounts are often lots less than the amounts given by the calculator as well. I never lost weight because not eat enough calories makes your body believe you are starving it and turns what you eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please don't also make this same mistake as I did this for years. I have since managed to lose 2 1/2st since I found this out and upped my calories. Good luck with your journey.

I

When you review the advice you will see that you will be encouraged not to complete a diet but to change to a healthier permanent lifestyle

That will take time but this is a very good place to get help

Good luck

Welcome! My tip is to come on to this forum regularly, use it as part of your support network. Write a post if you are feeling shaky and there is always support. Tell us your good days or proud moments and we will cheer you on! Record your planned food and how closely it went to plan in daily diary. Aim to lose a little every week and record it in one of the weekly weigh ins! Weigh yourself in the morning tomorrow, (Tuesday) - that can be your day one. Look for "OLD weigh ins" on the topics list, go into the weigh in for Tuesday 15/8/17, record your day 1 weight. Put it all out there! Then every tuesday come back to "OLD weigh ins" and record your new weight!

This forum is a hive of support, advice and friendship, I hope you will find it of use!

GOOD LUCK! and WELCOME!

Good morning, just take it one day at a time. Remind yourself daily your reason for wanting to lose weight and as everyone has already said this is an amazing community of people who are willing to support you (for free 😊) and who you can also support. Good luck!
