Giving up bad habits, a new start. πŸ€—

Hi, It's has taken me quite some time to make the commitment to change. I'm 31 and 4 1/2 stone over weight and the worst part is, it's all my own doing.

I have decided to give calorie counting a go, my main reason is I'm hoping it will help me cut down on portion size, I'm guilty of over filling a plate.

Any help or advice would always be welcome, I know from experience I will struggle to get there by myself.

xx

Hi, I'm sure you will get a proper welcome soon, but in the mean time, there's a handy guide to portion sizes here -

healthyfood.co.uk/article/e...

There's a topics section on the right of the page, you will get lots of hints and tips reading through some of those.

Good luck.

Hi and welcome Helen :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread, it has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a guide to healthy living, rather that a specific diet plan.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have.

Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the monday group weigh-in. If you follow Zest and myself, you'll be notified when we post the threads. However, the latest thread can always be found in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration :)

Wishing you all the very best :)

Saw the title of your post and it struck a chord. I'm on week 16 and have reached the goal I set (35lbs loss and into a healthy BMI). Cutting out the bad habits I know was the main reason for the weight loss. Long list but mainly wrong food, junk food, too much food, wrong snacks, too many snacks etc etc. I haven't counted a calorie yet or weighed any food but from visiting here and reading stuff I know more about good and bad food which has informed me and helped hugely. I also changed my exercise from lazy ploddy walks to speedy ones and now with yummy hills that I can't resist :-) I now want to lose another 8 lbs so I might end up using the kitchen scales to weigh my food but I'm hoping that kicking the bad habits forever will slowly get me there. Good luck :-)

Hello and welcome, and congratulations on taking charge of your life! πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‰β€οΈ

This forum is great, with excellent resources, inspiring success stories and friendly members 😊

Following a generous eating plan with good balance of nutrients plus occasional treats is working for me 😊 After a while it will become second nature, as you willdevelop 'lean habits' 😊

Good luck and very best wishes 😊

Heya welcome! I struggle with portion sizes too, especially when I go to my mums. Sometimes it helps to think 'how much food do i actually need (to keep me going till my next meal) ?' A member on here told me to think of food as fuel and that has helped change my mindset a bit. Doesn't always work but it's a good trick sometimes. Also this has probably been said but if you load your plate with non-starchy veg it makes up a bit for less potatoes etc.

Good luck you can do it!

Heya Helen

I just came across your profile on the "People near me section" so thought I'd say hi because I also worry that I will struggle to lose the weight alone which is why I'm here :)

I'm 32 and I'm looking to lose 100lbs in total to put me in the middle of my recommended BMI so around 7st but I'm on day 3 with no cheating and exercise every day so it's so far so good!

Best of luck to you

Deb

Hi Deb,

Are you close by then? I always let myself down because the people around me eat what ever they want and I feel like I'm missing out, I have been pretty good, I'm using the nutracheck ap the count calories and doing my best to bring down portion sizes, so far so good. But they say it takes about 6weeks to kick a bad habit and replace it with a new and improved one.. hope I can last that long.

Best of luck, you have all my support if you need someone to swap ideas and vent to xx

It seems to think we are 3 miles from each other so I either have it set up wrong or you're in the Mansfield area lol.

The same applies to you - any time you want a rant or need a friendly nudge feel free to let me know :)
