Hi and welcome

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey

I went to NY for 10 days for my 50th.... that was 5 years ago now. It was fantastic! You'll have an amazing time!

I weigh 4.5 stone less than I did back then. You can do this!

I'm only short (4ft 9") and disabled so exercise is virtually impossible and I have little mobility. By keeping a food diary and weighing my portion sizes, I soon realised just why I was so overweight! I was eating way too many calories!

I started my weight loss seven months before my fiftieth. You won't lose six stone before October, but you'll be able to lose enough to improve your health and confidence.

Try not to think of this as a diet but as a lifestyle change.

So what diet plan are you going to do? Maybe I missed that part? I'm starting off with a water fast tomorrow and I find watching motivational videos and looking at success stories helps me alot.

Ok, gotta look that up. Don't know what it entails. I need to lose a lot of weight too. About 100lbs. Funny how weight can hinder a person from being their true and best self, and for me that is definitely the case. And I've had this weight on for years now, it's has stagnated me from doing many things productive with my life, and this is the first step to moving forward. Good luck in your journey.

I've read people's posts and realise I'm not alone. So many of us have similar stories. I'm positive that we will all get to where we want to be, especially supporting each other. My downfall is I start each day eating healthly, yet by late afternoon I've gone of track and then give up and eat highly processed food (lots) then beat myself up and finally start the cycle again the next day :-(. Any suggestions on how to break the cycle????

I've gained and lost the same two Stone for about 35 years so know how that feels. I'm either completely 'on it' or fall off the wagon big time, there is no middle ground with me.... I'm preparing again to start in earnest tomorrow and this time it's nearly over three stone to lose (it seems you blink and the weight is there!). I was 50 last year and know just how many photos are taken of you at various parties so visualise yourself in those photos in October as an extra bit of motivation.... break it down into days rather than weeks or months by saying to yourself.... I'm going to be good today... focus on that rather than the big goal - that's what I'm going to do as I've learnt that otherwise, I tend to get overwhelmed by the big task ahead .... let's do it!
