I'm in my mid 30s, I'm short girl (woman?) with only 5 feet (153cm), not very heavy (54kg = 119lbs), but I want to get rid of some fat (currently 30.2% according to my weight). My dream is to get between 18-23%, I know a long way. I'm not looking too much on my kilograms, as I know that muscles are heavier than fat and it may not drop (or not much).
My motivation... hard to say, I struggle with my body image for around 5 years. It is my dream to feel good, look good, and like what I see in the mirror. I am old enough to know that are things that I cannot change (I won't be 5.8" model with long legs and long blond hair ), but there are others that I could control I hope this year will be The Year!
I've just started the programme. I hope I'll manage to keep track of all food that lands in my mouth & stomach. I'm using MyFitnessPal for kcal calculations. I'll try to be more active. Last Friday I've received Fitness Tracker, so I count my steps (& km). I'm also in the C25K programme, not very far with my running journey, but slow and steady going forward.
I've never managed to stay on any diet / healthy eating for longer than a month (2-3 weeks to be more accurate). I hope this forum will help me to stay accountable and motivated.
My first day didn't actually go as planned. I met a friend and we went to the Patisserie Valerie for a cake and MyFitnessPal told me that I consumed 500kcal O_O At least I walked a lot, so burnt at least part of what I've eaten.
Cheers,
Iga

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Make sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Welcome Iga. You've certainly got a fair bit planned.
Moreless has supplied you with lots of incredibly useful info and links to further. Apart from the BMI/calorie calculator (which I'd say is a must), do take the time to read the NHS 12 week plan that she mentioned. For instance, there is a section in it on how deal with going out to eateries, such as Patisserie Valerie
For now I've read week 1 of the plan, and I'm trying to go through all of the useful information are around here. Indeed, there is a lot.
My BMI is 23.1, and my calorie allowance is 1,631 (for maintenance), thus preferably below it. Today, I am below my limit, as even with the cake I reached only 1,529 kcal.
I joined the Happy Challenge, as I want to give it a go (for 7 days) and see if it works for me.
In general, I'm eating rather healthy. I think my weak points are:
- I'm sweet tooth. I avoid keeping sweets (and salty snacks) at home. However, few days a month I just can't keep myself away, as my craving wins and I cannot keep it just to one square of dark chocolate or few fruits.
- I crave sweets (usually milky chocolate) when I feel bad, depressed, lonely, etc. Last time microwaved apples with cinnamon and honey helped.
- I am not consistent. And this is my biggest problem. I am good for few weeks and then I'm back to normal, which is good enough to keep myself in the healthy BMI (but top limit) and with reasonable weight (but far away from my dream lean shape).
- I don't like wholegrain bread / pasta and those are more expensive in Sainsburys. I try to eat less of them, but rarely managing.
I'm good at:
- Eating breakfast every day - usually oat porridge with Greek yoghurt and berries (Mon-Fri), scrambled eggs (sometimes with veggies) or 2 sandwiches during weekends.
- I eat regularly, at least when I am not on holidays / breaks. I'm eating breakfast (7am), snack (9-10am), lunch (1-2pm), snack (4-5pm), dinner (7-8pm). My main meal is lunch, dinner is rather small.
- I eat enough fruits (1-4 per day)
- Not drinking alcohol (or rather very rarely).
- I tend to eat from small plates / bowls.
- I drink a lot, although I hate taste of water, so I drink green tea / mint tea / herbal teas / juice with water (50:50), sometimes fruit-infused water.
- I read food labels (mostly).
- I tend to snack with high-protein or healthy fat foods.
- I am rather active. I walk my dog everyday. I think I easily do more than 150 min of exercises a week.
I struggle with:
- eating a lot of veggies
- planning meals - I am emotional creature and sometimes I just do not want to eat what I've planned. Usually I plan a whole week, as I tend to shop once a week. I plan all / most lunches, I buy things for healthy snacks (fruits, nuts) (I buy also veggies, but I somehow manage not to eat them and they go bad and I feel really bad about it). During my shopping I think in general about healthy dinners as well, but nothing in particular.
OMG, it felt like confession. But well... here it is. Everything black on white.
I have drawn a huge amount of strength from this forum, so do try and find time to post your thoughts, happy/bad times, questions and just generally get involved. I followed the Happiness Challenge for a while and still utilise the positivity that I learnt.
Thanks Emile. I will be active in here or not at all. I decided to give it a try, as C25K forum gave me a huge bust and I loved it. So this is my second forum (ever), and I think it will work as well as the running forum
