Hi, I am a newbie and I have to lose half my body weight to be healthy. I weigh 19 and a half stone at the moment and I am 5ft 4. I have tried dieting before and I haven't kept it up. I am determined this time to keep eating healthily.

Need to lose half my body weight
Welcome, this is a great site populated by an impressive diversity of people/dieters who are all massively positive, supportive and knowledgable.
Thanks for my first reply. So far I have been walking my dog for the last 2 days and calorie counting. How much weight do you need to lose?
Quite a bit. I am 17 stone and 13 pounds. One of things i've found of great value on this site is the weekly weigh-ins - even though i'm losing weight slowly that accountability is key for me and I am too busy/have too many kids to go to a physical slimmers class.
I have no real excuse for not attending a slimmers class. It is held 2 minutes from my front door. My youngest kid is 19 and I do have the time. I just don't think that it is the right thing for me just now. I will do the weigh in tomorrow. Have you lost a lot of weight.
I was 18.10 at the start of the year (before I joined this website) and that was my all time heaviest so - very slowly i'm heading in the right direction. In the past deadlines, travel, tiredness and family duties have tended to push dieting down my priorities and that's what I'm trying to change - Dieting/health has to become and remain my number one priority in life and this website is a great place to make that a day-to-day reality rather than just empty words!!
Hi and welcome to the weight loss forum
You will receive lots of friendly advice and supoort here and are never on your own, as we are all going through the same journey

Hi and welcome
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ๐
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ๐
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our โWhat's happening todayโ thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ๐
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey
Morning Pict123 .
I am calorie counting using my allowance from the NHS BMI checker but I log them on MyFitnessPal ( free from the App Store)
I have tried to eat a normal diet as possible just watching portion sizes and not having too many treats.
I have lost 1 stone since 16 June 2017. I have lost this weight several times before but always seem to put it back on hence the reason I am eating my normal diet.
Good luck in your journey, you can do it , just take each day at a time & if you have a bad day , just start again the next day ๐
Thanks for the support. My dietician says the same" just restart the next day if I have a bad day". This is day 3 of my healthy eating diet. Well done on the weight loss! I have also been watching portion sizes and I am now eating less than half of what I used to eat. Good luck on your weight loss journey and thanks for your supportive reply.
Good luck ๐
Hi, you will get a lot of encouragement here from others who have been in the same situation and are successfully losing weight. Remember to set yourself achievable goals and reward yourself with non-food rewards. All the best.
