Hi I signed up a few weeks ago, but did not commit to getting involved. I need to shift about three stone , it has become more urgent as I have bursitis in my thigh joint and will not be able to excercise for a long time. Have sulked about finally getting the okay to go back to cardiac rehab classes, but after only a couple of months have to stop. Have given myself a stern talking to, dug out my smaller plate, munched on a couple of Marmite rice cakes and here I am! As with so many of us 'I could write a book' with my dieting experience over the years, I really need help to change my mindset from 'know it all anyway, will start tomorrow' to this is how I live my life. There are lots of positives; I really enjoy healthy eating, don't eat bread and am still keeping as active as possible (off to Arundel putting tomorrow). I love cooking and food presentation - I have a very amenable partner! I am really looking forward to everybody's chats and ideas

Hi and welcome, Dawn
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey

Welcome Dawn!
I hope you manage to find what you seek here. I have found the motivation and support to be superb!
A very nice walk you have there, looks familiar actually. Which is kind of novel for me! Was it taken in the Arundel area? Looks like you're near the Wetlands center.
Thanks, feels like a first step! We spent a few hours at the Bentley Wildfowl and Car museum. It is near Ringmer- a good day.
Hi dawnz and welcome! How nice to meet you in the flesh as it were.
Urrghhh Bursitis! I have been suffering badly with what I thought was bursitis in my left hip. Indeed about 5 years ago I had a cortisone injection into my hip.... but of course after some relief, it returned.
I tried Pilates, but that made the pain worse!
I do have a disability and both of my hips are.... let's say "very different" to how they should be. In fact, it's amazing that I am able to walk at all, apparently:

However, I am now under a consultant who believes that the problems may be caused by something going on in my lower back / sacroiliac joint. I've had two MRI scans (horrid experience, was in the machine for an hour and 10 minutes) and waiting to see the consultant again for the results which will be sometime in November.
The really good news is that losing weight is entirely possible without doing an ounce of exercise! Just take a look at some of my early posts on my profile:

Your hip - whatever turns out to be the cause of your chronic pain, will benefit hugely from the weight loss - I know my aches and pains have subsided. But losing 4.5 stone, it's not really surprising! I think of each half a stone as a newborn baby, and I was carrying 9 newborn babies around with me....
Whew! Thankyou for sharing, am looking forward to catching up on posts. I have been feeling guilty about not being so active, so if I can tackle it from another angle for a while....
Hi Vicky, I have just read through two of your posts, and two things have just made me sit up straight; Lose weight while you physically can, and the newborn babies thing! I am at the minute 'snacking' on the posts, will find more nuggets....
Hi and welcome! You came to the right place! Good luck to you.
