Hi there Hidden one of our administrators will contact you as well with information about the forum too shortly. I would like to inform you of the big mistake I used to make before I joined here which always stopped me from losing weight. The person who told me about this has left the site. I used to eat as little as possible as I thought this would help me lose weight faster, I only ate only about 1000 Cals a day, but this is not what helps you.
Make sure you check out the NHS bmi calculator for how many calories you should be eating every day to be able to lose weight. It gives you a personal amount of calories which is different for everyone and this is why this is the one you should follow, because all the other sites that gives you amounts just tend to give everyone the same amounts that don't even seem to give out the right amounts. People don't even seem to lose weight properly when they follow the others, this is why we always suggest to follow the NHS bmi calculator.
Once you are given the two amounts by the calculator to eat between to be able to lose weight safely do make sure you eat somewhere between these amounts and do not drop lower than the amount advised otherwise your body will think that you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat. This weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please don't make this same mistake. Good luck with your journey. 😀
Hello Hidden and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Hidden - first, do yourself a favour and change your name. No one here will want to call you something so degrading! And since we can help you change, you won't feel you need it any more!
Secondly, I don't understand why you have put on weight since you were diagnosed. Are you sure it hadn't gone on already? If you are on the right medication, you are no different than anyone else. I speak from experience - I had an underactive thyroid and slowly put on weight over a number of years, becoming more lethargic and ill all the while. Within months of diagnosis and starting thyroxin medication, I lost it gradually without even trying.
That was 35 years ago. I have been on medication since then, and I have put on weight at various times during my life, basically because I eat too much!
So start the 12 week plan, count calories, and gradually you will lose that weight. Don't kid yourself that your thyroid is to blame. 😊
