Hi, silly topic put need help to decide.

When I started this diet my Sister in Law and myself came up with a date 21/03/16 to go clothes shopping giving me 5months to go down enough.

Well the date is nearly here and I'am not quiet the size I want to be but my clothes are getting too big. Do I go clothes shopping for the size I'am at now and have to go shopping again when at the size I want or risk going down a size and work towards it?

I would change dates but she booked it off work has a holiday.

Any advice welcome. Thanks

Hi Gottodothis

I was interested in your post as I am in a similar position, where many of my clothes are getting baggy. I decided to make do for now except a couple of tops which will still be ok when I get to target. I bought a pair of trousers too small which are now my motivation trousers. I know they will be a good fit when I lose the extra weight as I have the same style in a 16 (now enormous) a 14, just right and a 12 which I can get 1 leg in. I sound like Goldilocks. So perhaps you could still go shopping and have a lovely day but limit what you buy so you can have a real splurge when you reach target 😃😃

Hi Gottodothis,

Wow, time is passing quickly isn't it, and your plans to go clothes shopping with your sister-in-law are nearly here - you've put forward your dilemma regarding whether to select clothes for the size you are now, or the size you're considering being in the end.

Just off the top of my head, I can see a few options to potentially consider - and it all depends on your personal budget and how you feel, but maybe consider buying an outfit that fits you now - as your existing clothes are looser and it would be really motivating to find something to fit your current size, and enjoy wearing it for a while. You could potentially get that altered by a tailor if you wanted to keep it longer term. I don't think I'd personally buy clothes that I didn't yet fit into, because sizes vary so much from shop to shop.

Another option could be to use it as a 'window shopping' experience where you don't feel any obligation or pressure to buy anything, but you're looking for potential purchases, and therefore any that you do buy can be ones you definitely feel good in. Maybe check out the policy for returning purchases too, so you can try them again at home to ensure they are right for you. That way you're not committing yourself, but you could enjoy the experience more. Then if there's an outfit you think you'd like to buy at your slimmer size, then keep a note of where to go to get it later.

Maybe go with your gut instinct and what feels right on the day. Some shops have 'personal shoppers' or very experienced sales staff, who could help out - and maybe ask the opinion of those people regarding possible styles that you might not necessarily have considered trying.

Hope you have a lovely shopping trip together.

Lowcal :-)

I think well fitting underwear is essential so you could look for one set of that when you shop. Outer clothing - do you ever rummage in the charity shops? That is a good way to "ring the changes" without spending a fortune. Maybe have a hair-do together - anything to make you feel good will help you keep on track until you reach target!

Clothes 'shopping' Or 'trying on clothes that I can now fit into' is such fun, go for it! You don't need to buy much 😊 I also use a sewing machine and have taken lots of my clothes in 😊 Trousers, tops, Nighties, fleeces, (even bras !!😊)

if having clothes in a smaller size motivates you then do that too 😊 I have a favourite top that shrunk in the wash (honestly!) and it is hanging on the back of the wardrobe door to spur me on 😊

I have also noticed shoes getting loose - especially sandals 😕 Anyone else had this?

Enjoy your day out gottodothis 😊

Yes to the shoes getting bigger !!! I only take a small 3 so shoe shopping is a nightmare anyway but I get continental sized shoes and tend to get high front shoes for everyday so I don't walk out of them😏😏 I find Deichman are good (and reasonably priced) plus I can buy online too. Great for when I'm not so mobile 😖😖

Well done for your loss so far :)

I am a bit of a shopaholic and found it hard to stop buying clothes. So I still buy (but much less). I either buy stuff in the next size down or I things that just fit now but will be ok when I lose a bit more.

It is definitely worth going out and trying some new stuff as you may find your style has changed a bit due to your new shape - mine has :)

Oh my clothes sense has changed used to be baggy jeans and tracksuit pants with baggy tops. Now it is leggings, still with a baggy too has my tummy is slow to go (reason I can't go down another size).

Needle and thread what is that? My home economics teacher banned me from using a sewing machine after one use I broke it. Instead gave me wood, nails, canvas and string to make something.

Hey,

From previous experience I would recommend you buy a couple of nice fitting items so that you see yourself as a 'new you', rather than a slimmer you in your old baggy clothes.

I did it myself, I didn't splash out on expensive stuff, as I knew I still had more to lose, but once I was in clothes that fit comfortably I felt more confident, friends made positive comments and it pushed me even further. I was starting to see the progress on myself rather than just on the scales.

Enjoy your shopping trip, you've earned!

Go and buy something! It will keep your motivation up and you'll look and feel great.

Hi,

Why not take the day to check out the sales and try on loads !!! As your shape has changed so might what actually suits you now😃 Maybe you can try new colours as well ???

What about new make up, lippy or a new perfume???

Maybe buy a couple of staples that will get you through to where you want to be ?? Then have another day out😃

Whatever you decide have a fabulous day out celebrating all your hard work💋

😇

Why don't you both treat yourself to a spa, get your nails done, get a treatment on your hair, a massage. Your still pampering yourselves and you may feel better and motivate again to keep going.

You never know she be feeling the same as you.

Good luck and well done

How about buying one or two items in your target size and the rest in your current size. That way, you won't feel bad about slimming out of the "now" clothes and will already have some "target" clothes waiting?? I am in the same boat and slowly weeding out my larger clothes. As things need replacing ( underwear etc) I'm going down a size at a time. I've now got a half and half wardrobe!! Working towards a nice slim one but still have a way to go. Also, some of my things I am getting altered rather than throwing out. Something worth thinking about for any items you particularly like 😊 have a fun day shopping!! 😉😉

I would go and get some new clothes, not many but some and maybe don't spend too much or buy stuff that is slightly tight? I think it will give you a boost and have a few items that will fit you well can give you some more confidence and drive to see your new body shape :)

you can always do charity shops too since they wont cost too much - to quote gok from back in the day buy a capsule wardrobe lol but the main thing is to have a good day - buy some jewellery too or accessories :)

I have had some fun stuff in sales. They seem to go on all year now. Also there are some really cheap options: think of supermarkets, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Tesco and even Lidl. On the high street, there is T K Max, New Look etc. Why not get yourself some tight leg trousers, in your current size and maybe a couple of tops. Whether they are for going out in, going to work, sitting around the house or going to the gym, depends on your priorities and what is available. I did get a real boost from a new cheap Mac from ASDA and a couple of tunics from Lidl. Apart from that, I "shopped" in the attic. If you are like me, you might have as many as 5 sizes tucked away. Nothing nicer than an old favourite, now looking good. I check that whatever it is is on trend by looking at the shops' websites but it seems that almost anything goes these days. So the old minidresses can become tunics over leggings or trousers, and so on. I do find that belts, or putting currently fitting elastic through the waistbands of too big trousers and skirts, gives a slightly different look that fits until you can get into the next size down. Hope you have as much fun with this as I have going from a size 24 to a 14.

Not what you're looking for?
