You are not old .I am 60 , was 24st in Feb which makes me overweight with at least another person on my back.Still.My hips are beggared .Not even contemplating a sugar test . It isn't all bad -my bp is spot on,I'm 5' 7'' so 'carry it well' (so I'm told) .My hips do not agree .I can cook -so am about to put together a veggie chilli for lunch so I can comfort eat something warm, filling and spicy .
I need to walk . That's my aim.
What would being lighter help you with?
141051 you are welcome to join this forum. I'm a fellow newbie. I joined a month ago. I have found the support from the forum really invaluable. You'll get a lot of support and don't forget you also have a lot of wisdom and experience to share. How about changing one habit this week? Could you drink a glass of water twice today, or walk for 10 mins? I really look forward to hearing about your progress.
Hello 141051 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
Welcome 141051 and whilst I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling low and desperate - you've found us here now, so hoping that you are able to turn things around!
Firstly you mention depression - I hope that your GP is being helpful to you in this regard? Hopefully you have access to Talking Therapies if you are in the UK?
Then - if you start to take some small steps to address the weight, I think you'll be surprised how quickly things will happen to make you feel better.
I have a physical disability which affects my mobility (I'm impaired as a result of the drug Thalidomide, which you may have heard of) and was overweight from the age of 9. I am 55 years old this year! It was only when I reached 49 that I decided that it was time to make some changes. This was helped in part by coming out of a marriage which - whilst it wasn't "unhappy", shall we say wasn't a fulfilling relationship (although I did get a beautiful daughter as a result!)
Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring? I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.
Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it..
