Eating disorder, Crohns and FAT

Hello - I'm new here - aged 54 female - was an Anorexic in my youth - became a Compulsive Eater in my forties (Not Bulimic!!). Now I have been diagnosed with Crohn's and am overweight. I have damaged shoulders and knees so aggressive exercise is a No No and my dietician said too much exercise is not good for Crohn's patients. I do walk 30/40 mins most days but find it hard too get motivated.

I have joined the forum to see if I can be inspired by others to do something about this. I weigh 85.2 kg - dietician suggested I try to lose 10% so 8kg (21 lbs) - that's a lot.

Hey pumpkin, welcome to the forum, you are in good company here with lots of supportive people who understand the struggles of weight loss!

The NHS plan is a great place to start, I also use a calorie counting app, my fitness pal, alongside it to track what I'm eating and stay within my calorie goal which helps!

As for exercise, I know you can't overdo it but cycling is a good one for bad knees, I've just had a knee op and have been cycling, which has actually also really helped with my rehab as strengthening the muscles in the legs help to support the knee joint. Swimming is also nice and gentle on the joints as no impact.

It can seem overwhelming if you have alot to lose I started with 65lb to lose, so I think it's a good idea to break it down into smaller goals. Maybe just focus on each kilo, that way you are meeting your smaller goals as you're going along!

I wish you the best of luck on your weight loss journey and am looking forward to hearing how you get on 🌸

Hiya hun

Just wanted to say welcome to the group, it is really good here, there are alot of people on a mission to lose weight and I have to say reading other people's experience and having the encouragement and support from here really helps.

Each weightloss journey is individual, you need to do what is best for you hun. The best way for me is to break my weight goal down, and aim for small goals inorder for me to get to my desired weight.

I use an app called my fitness pal which is great for tracking calories intake and also great for tracking my activity as well. Walking, cycling and swimming are gentle on the knees and great. Anyway I'm sure you will find something that will be great for you.

Keep us updated :-)

Hi Pumpkin,

Great that you've joined the forum, and hope you'll find it a helpful and supportive place in your goals to lose some weight.

The NHS website pages are really good, as there's a 12 week structured plan there - with lots of good advice and information. The link is here, incase you've not see it and want to do so:

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Good luck with all your goals.

Hi pumpkin10, I can relate how you feel Hun, I suffered from an ED when I was a teenager and I also have Crohn's, and I'm disabled. So finding it hard myself but I have lost a lot of weight and still trying to lose another 14-21ibs. Have you tried swimming? That might help your knees and muscles as well. Good luck on your weight loss please keep us updated on your process Hun x
