My first post. I have scoured Youtube and am trying the 16:8 Alternative Fasting. It is not a diet but a period of eating and not eating. I eat within an 8 hour window and stop eating for a 16 hour window (during 8 of which I am asleep). I have cut out added sugar and refined carbohydrates completely and eat nutrient dense food. I have lost 3 1/2 inches off my waist in 3 weeks and am not hungry. The you tubers I follow Dr Eric Berg, Jason Fung MD and Dr Mike say fat is not about counting calories, its caused principally by 2 hormones: insulin and cortisol. High level of these hormones cause our bodies to store fat. Sugar and simple carbohydrates (white bread, white rice, cakes, etc.) raises our insulin levels. They also say dieting does not work long term since it lowers our metabolic rate so that once we stop dieting, we put the weight back on and more! Sounds familiar? They say alternative fasting maintains/increases our metabolic rate so the weight stay off. I have lost a stone so far and have 4 more to go. I will keep you posted.
