Hi Nannyjen, welcome to the forum. Yes go for it! I started at 60, 3 weeks ago after a lifetime of yoyo dieting and have lost 9lbs. It never occurred to me in the past to count calories I always joined a club, but that is what I am doing now. My calorie range is between 1500-1900 and so average 1650. Find your calorie range. Drink lots of water, pick healthy food and write everthing down. I am 5'3 have a further 5.5 stone to lose and I am confident for the first time that I'll get there. There's still room for a glass of wine or a cake just count it in and don't do it everyday🤣 Stay on the forum as you will get lots of help and advice and this will help tremendously on your journey. Yoy can do it - good luck👍😊

Thanks Kazzi56 that's really helpful advice. Like you I've joined clubs countless times so really need to try a different approach. My plan is to weigh tomorrow & take measurements & start with my calorie counting also to start walking again as I've become a real couch potatoe
That's great. Join the weigh in thread on here it will be posted later tonight so join in the morning or any other day that suits you. I weigh in on a Sunday. I too have taken all measurements for the first time ever and like you have started moving more. It's not rocket science so wonder why I didn't do it years ago.🤣 This site is full of lovely people offering great advice and support. I wish you well on your journey.😊
I agree with you, I always joined a club. I wish I had all the money I spent in subscriptions. I also wish someone had told me 30 years ago I could loose weight by eating 1800 calories a day. I used to try to eat 1000 in my 30s no wonder I always gave up and got fatter.
Hi Lindakirk, Me to with the club subscriptions and gym membership. I too would try and lose on the club equivalent to 1250cals and wondered how I couldn't keep it up. Congrats on your stone loss and wishing you well on your journey👏😊
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey Nannyjen - Yellowrose 55 and Hidden have given you some great advice
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker (a link to this can be found in the Welcome Newbies thread ) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
I weigh in on a Saturday and fingers crossed will get my 1 stone badge this week

Hello, I've lost 4 stone 11 lbs and so close to your five stone target. I joined Slimming World, followed the plan and never lookups back. Basically I cook from scratch, cut out a lot of high sugar and high fat snacks and exercise five times a week. No magic bullet. It is hard work but start small and it's amazing how those small changes become a huge one! Healthy living is a lifestyle for me now. Good luck
I like the fact that you say it is hard work without mentioning exercise .I agree entirely -having to be organised re: cooking from scratch is hard work, but worth it .I do sometimes 'cheat' buy buying Aldi/ M & S low cal meals but by and large, it is home-made . I joined here about 12 days ago and have lost 3lbs making a total of 47 lbs gone since Feb. Long way to go though . At least another 6 stone and even that will not bring me to a healthy bmi. My reason for taking myself in hand this time? Osteoarthritis in both hips, knees and ankles, partly due to haemochromatosis .I need to walk better .Already having some effect -managed to get to London to see Adele last week and walked 4 miles that day ( granted with a stick) .Couldn't have done that in Feb.Off to chop an onion.........ha ha!
That's wonderful, I'm so pleased for you. I also have arthritis but not as bad as you. I always know when I'm getting too big as my Knees start hurting, the pain always goes away if I lose weight. I have osteoarthritis in my fingers unfortunately weight dosnt seem to affect them.
