Hi all. I'm new on here. Have tried many dieting ideas in the past including Slimming World a few times, intermittent fasting, low carb diets - you name it I've tried it! Anyway, it seems that none of these are working for me and I need to plain old simple calorie count and exercise. Everyone knows this of course - so much harder to make it happen. I have two tiny children and find the will power not to finish their food and to find time for exercise hard. I also kid myself that I can get away with eating a whole lot more than I can. I am 38 and my metabolism has definitely slowed down post kids... Anyway, I very much want to be involved with this community and will be trying to follow the 12 week plan. Have a good Monday everyone. My plan starts now!
Good morning!: Hi all. I'm new on here... - Weight Loss Support
Good morning!
Hi and welcome, KG79
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Make sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi and Welcome KG79.
I found the 12-week plan to be really good. Like you I kind of generally knew what to do, but wasn't really sure where to start. I also didn't want a diet, which this isn't, it's more a plan for a healthy lifestyle. Which is exactly what I was looking for.
Good luck!
Thank you VickyDLM. ☺
You're right, I need something I can just keep up forever. It also needs to be non time consuming. Sitting in a group for an hour a week didn't work for me.
Thanks for the welcome. Day 1 and all well so far 😂
I know what you mean. I don't really have the time for more meetings, I have enough to do with my Brownie unit! Plus, I love the fact that this is free.
Agreed 😊 Brownie unit sounds like fun! Free is definitely the way forward. I've spent a lot on exercise dvds and slimming groups over the years. Would rather spend it on nice fruit in m&s 😂
I am trying the 12 week plan too just started but faltered at the weekend but will try again this week. Good luck with your journey:))
Thank you! Good luck to you too. I find that when I falter I just have to get right back on it. If I change my habits e.g. when I'm ill, I find it really hard to get back into good habits. Oh it is tough this healthy eating game isn't It?!
Oh tell me about it! Its also hard when you get stressed have a run in with who knows and just feeling down. At the moment I am feeling a bit stressed and the little cheese I am putting in the salad is so tempting to put the whole lot into my mouth. Thanks goodness we have our support here. So thank you The block is stayng in the fridge
Welcome GG79. I'm new to calories too and i downloaded an app that i find great. It's funny but i was never interested in eating the kids leftovers. The thoughts of their grubby little hands touching the food and them sucking bits and spitting out put me right off😀😀
Thanks! What app did you download? I find I am probably guessing too much. Ha ha, grubby little hands... Yes, that image should help me hold myself back 😂 Good luck with your week 🍀
Hey KG79
I've just started too, I'm also 38 with 3 young kids twins 4 and another is 2. I'm always picking at their food. I dread to think of how much I've spent at Sliiming world over the many years, I've joined & left many times.
I'm hoping I can keep it simple and lose weight at a steady pace. I have a lot to loose.
Hope it works for you.
Louise
