Hi Slave17 . What are your blood sugar readings? Did the doctor say to count carbs at every snack and/or meal? Are you on insulin? Counting carbs can help in two ways. First, it can help with better control of blood sugars. Second, it will also help with the weight loss issues.
Please take a look at the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation website and also the group on HU. Please go to: drwf.org.uk/understanding-d...
All leaflets are free for download, read and/or listen to at anytime. You can also check out the DRWF group on HU at: healthunlocked.com/drwfdiab...
The Diabetes India group on HU is: healthunlocked.com/diabetes...
I hope this helps!
I'm T2 diabetic and overweight too but am now just outside the normal range on my BG (6.3 - apparently a few years ago that was normal!). I have been watching my carbs for awhile and although weightloss is slow (which suits me) it is working. I've cut out almost all food with added sugars and processed foods, I do have the occasional treat but have found that I don't need them so much as I used to. My one main treat each week is my Morrisons cream muffin after the food shop on a Friday but I buy now sweets or biscuits, eat unroasted nuts and seeds and soda bread (sometimes homemade) which has no added sugar, although you need to carb count it.
You'd be surprised how much lowering carbs (not cutting them out completely) will help with weightloss. More veg and protein on your plate (although not excessive protein) and 1-2 portions of fruit a day - preferably not with high fructose.
Diabetes.org.uk have a great series of videos on how to cook some delicious meals and educational modules that will help understand what certain foods do to your body. Have a look at the Xperthealth.org.uk website, they do excellent courses for diabetics which I found invaluable.
