Hello BIGLYN59 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
Hi BIGLYN
You're certainly not on your own here. Lots of us have lots of weight to loose.
You've made a huge first step in posting. Stay with us, go through the site, post and ask all the questions that you want to.
When you've checked your bmi, p!ease believe the number of calories that you are able to eat. Don't cut right back, eat and enjoy . You'll find the way you eat changes as you learn more.
I've kicked "diet" foods into the bin. Lovely tasty real food ,good oils and for me having full fat yogurt is a revelation.
It's taken me a while but I'm learning portion control and it's working.
I was 18st 5lb when I started and was 16. 12 last Sunday eating about 1600 Cal's a day.
Sorry if I'm waffling but this site has made such a difference to me.
Best of luck 🌷
I only joined this week but have been eating healthily since mid-February.Lost 3st 3 lbs so far .However , if I lose another 7st I'd still be 14 stone . I can't get my head around that -over the years I've lost at least 22stone .Trouble is, everytime I stopped I put on more .
All of that 22 stone is 'repetitive ' weight loss .i.e: the same stones! So, this time I'm aiming for a dedicated period of healthy eating rather than a an actual weight. Given myself one year .One year . That takes me to Feb 2018. Long enough to learn new habits and still accommodate a few old ones I can't (won't) break.
I have to do it though -all too often I struggle to walk with hip osteoarthritis. It's loads better already .Don't get me wrong , I love My Fitness Pal for tracking and projected weight targets .Also Happy Scale for trends etc. I find the more apps I enter successes into the better I feel ! Sad or what!I weigh daily but never -NEVER-record a gain ,I just sit tight, stick it out and wait.
I wish I'd taken some simple measurements at the beginning ,but no matter .
The only reason I'm telling you this is because I'm really hoping your situation is better than mine .Maybe we can support each other ?
Whatever happens - Good luck .We can do this . I have my eyes set on a size 16 black Bardot dress and a pair of vertical red court shoes 👠. Bugger the arthritis ! Lol!
Hi Cymrawes
Sounds like you've got a plan there, giving yourself time to change your eating habits.
It is a long term change of habits isn't it. Not a diet but making healthy choices and portion control.
I'm certainly enjoying using olive/rapeseed oil rather than low fat spray etc. Just have to measure it. Normal hummus, yogurt. Enjoying a few nuts or trail mix of an evening. I don't weigh daily it's too scary for me, I sometimes/ rarely weigh mid week and then on here every sunday.
Best of luck for this week 🌷
Hi Janecad . I think I'm sounding a lot more organised and grounded than I am! My problem is that I am a true addict to food .All aspects of it .I smoke my own fish, meat and cheese, make my own sausages/organic pork pies ,steeped gins /vodkas etc .....I even make black puddings ( tho' my little kitchen looked like a scene from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre last time......) .This is really, really hard . However - on the plus side-I am now dead old - and getting the weight off is just the same .SO much easier than dieting .Dieting is the problem - losing weight is easy !
Morning Cymrawes
Wow, you really are organised and into your food to find the time to do all that
. But surely that can that be a good thing ?, at least you know what's going into the food you eat and I bet that it's so tasty that a smaller portion is satisfying?
Think that you'd be better leaving the pork pies and vodka alone though 🍮🍷
I've stopped using the d word. I'm on a healthy eating plan and trying to control my portion size.
I'm getting older with wonky joints, but don't want to be dead old, i want to be able to get myself up after I fall over ( sight problem) that's one reason I took stock and started again.
