Hello Cavend15h and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺

Very well done on losing 3 stone 😊 You are doing a fantastic job. I'm in a similar place and trying to keep the weight off this time! I think that's the hardest part.

Here are a few suggestions to help you get the most from the forum.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺ (Please note if you are using the new HU App these facilities aren't available yet so you may prefer to use the full website version)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Thanks Anna. A newbie badge would be great. I not only struggle with food I find technology trying. Perseverance as for everything.

Hi Jemma. I have another four stone to lose so trying new things helps to keep the focus. Thanks.

I too constantly struggle with my lifetime's habit of reaching for the carbs and sweets when stressed or tired or in pain. I have proved several times that I can lose weight when motivated to do so, but also I can quickly gain weight when I stop tracking what I am eating.

Even if I stick to eating healthy foods, my portion control goes out of the window and I know I will always have an ongoing tendency to eat more than I need.

It is something we overeaters have to be aware of and learn to manage, in the same way an alcoholic learns to manage their addiction. Regretfully, it is not a case of "go on a diet, lose weight and everything will be all right"! There is life "after the diet" to consider too.

We are like the "labrador dogs" of this world - programmed to enjoy our food and have the metabolism that doesn't quickly burn it off. We have to adapt, and get to know ourselves, and take control!

Well that is my situation totally. Love the analogy to a Labrador. Me and my English bull terrier have very similar traits. Tiredness is a frequent cause of carb eating to excess. Grandchildren sitting for three days although enjoyable is draining plus poor sleep due to joint pain. However sun is shining and I am not going to give up. Onward and downward has to be the mantra.

Oh Dartmoor Dumpling you really hit a chord with your post, I always say food is like an addiction, but the Labrador comment has made me giggle, you are so right!

Hi.thanks for post. I am calorie counting for the first time ever and getting to grips with it. The forum is great and my weight loss journey doesn't feel like such a battle because I am telling myself it's healthy eating not a diet.. Best wishes.
