I have finally stepped on the scales and shocked to find I am 15 stone! I knew I had been gaining weight and that I was always dressed in black and all my dresses were tent like but I told myself I liked a loose fitting look! I just chose not to see it. I have a bit of a back ache and when I Googled, the issue of weight kept coming up so I finally admitted; that is me the overweight 59 year old with a bad back! I lost my mum 5 years ago and even though I am married with 2 daughters of my own still miss her so much and know that I comfort eat! Looking forward to getting started, being supported and offering support where I can. Wish me luck!

Finally facing the fact I am overweight
Hi and welcome, Necklacegirl
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
I think you have come to the right place. This site is very supportive and just being able to read what others have achieved is inspiring. I am in the same position as you and have just been going a few weeks but have now moved into the 14s and that has made me feel a lot better.
Welcome Necklacegirl to this forum. You will definitely learn so much from the members and that will keep you motivated. You acknowledge your challenge and that's the best place to start! All the very best in your journey!
Good luck Necklace girl.
I'm so sorry to hear you've lost your lovely mom. I know how hard it hits you and after focusing on others for so many years I, too, woke up one day and realised what I'd done to my own body through sheer neglect. It's a start and you can make a new start for yourself. Believe me when I say that food doesn't make the pain of grief go away; I followed that path too and it simply doesn't work.
What I have found is many of the health problems I had when I was bigger have gone away (with one notable exception but you can't win them all).
Distraction is a wonderful thing; if you're thinking about food all the time then I'd recommend going for a walk to break the spell.
We're all here to cheer you on every step of the way (what a terrible pun!) x
Hi Necklace girl, pleased to meet you. You will find lots of advice and support on here, enjoy your journey.

Still miss my Mum and she died over 20 years ago, but no one can take the good memories away, you will always have those.
Come on here regularly and join in the conversations, give us the benefit of your wisdom.
I decided to make food my friend and not my enemy and really enjoy the challenge of health eating and creating a new lifestyle for myself.
