I'm a 30 something who dreams of having a beautiful, strong, healthy body. The only trouble is, I love high fat & sugar food (chocolate, caramel, and cream cakes, to name but a few), sitting down to watch movies (sci-fi & fantasy being my fave), create art, write fiction, play card, board and video games, and spend literally hours scouring Pinterest for Fitness Motivation images!
Unfortunately this hasn't helped me get my dream body. I weigh myself every few weeks, and although I knew I needed to lose a few stone, I kidded myself in thinking I could easily shift it, and I was only 'a little overweight'. So I decided to enter my weight into the NHS Healthy Weight Calculator, weighing 13st 10lbs, I got a surprising result of OBESE, with a BMI of 32.9! I need to lose over 3 stone in weight. Wow.
I've been eating Butter and Whole Milk, eating as much fat as I wanted, assuming I needed the energy and nutrients to fuel my dream body that needed all the energy and protein to build strong muscles and bones from all the weight training I would do. Only I hadn't lifted a single dumbbell.
Now I'm planning a complete diet overhaul, and actually starting an exercise routine (instead of endlessly dreaming of doing one). It's time to create that dream body, and make it a reality.
I'd love to hear from anyone going through the same, or already been through this, any tips and encouragement would be very gratefully received!
Many Thanks in advance, and looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hello Healthy_Nut and welcome to the weight loss forum 😊 Well done on taking that first step, being accountable and planning a new fitter healthier you 😊
Here are a few suggestions for getting the most out of the forum. (Please note some of these suggestions are not available if you are using the HU App so I suggest you use the full website.)
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Yes that sounds like me...I love high fat & sugar. I am a newbie to the 12week aswell & yes saw the word OBESE which even though I knew I wasn't a healthy weight didn't think it would be OBESE.
What exercise are you thinking of starting?
At the moment I am just walking & have downloaded a yoga app.
Everyone on here seems really helpful & inspirational.
🌻Good Luck🌻
Hi Healthy_Nut welcome aboard. I'm a month into this healthier eating & must say really enjoying it. Like you I loved all the wrong foods, 4 weeks on I can honestly say I'm not missing them as I still allow myself a chocolate treat of a night at the weekend & a glass or two of wine. This week I can feel the difference so much in my clothes😀 I walk, use a small plate, no white bread😩
