I've been dealing with trying to lose weight for some time now and I'm sure so have a lot of other people but I just can't seem to catch a break. Every time I get dedicated and am doing well I get sick like very sick and end up having to stop to recover and it's hard to get back into it again. I've gained 10 pounds and my clothes aren't fitting, my depression is getting worse and I'm starting to lose hope I'll ever hit my goal weight. Any advice please

I feel like I'll never get there
Hello Fuzzypandaxx.
Sorry to hear about how you keep getting sick, that must be very frustrating each time you try to move things forward. You don't explain in what way but if you haven't seen a doctor then it seems that this may be a good place to start.
As for losing weight, then you've come to the right place where you'll find lots of support from a great bunch of very helpful and friendly people.
An administrator will reply to your post, providing you with ideas on how to plan your journey and how to get the best from this forum.
Wishing you all the best on your journey.
Hi and welcome, Fuzzypanda
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.
We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi and welcome
I've had the same problem for a few years, shoulder operations and found like you that the recovery period meant I was eating out of boredom and not being able to exercise
Not this time 💪 I've stopped the diet circle and I'm healthy eating, I stick to my calorie allowance (occasional slip 😱) have found walking, painting my nails, reading a book or knitting stops me heading for the biscuit tin, as I've recovered I've added, swimming, cycling and light weights, I've recently moved on to gentle kettle bell (can't do the swing yet)
I'd suggest small changes, sugar swaps, a longer walk, distractions, drinking water. Keeping active on the forum really has helped join a challenge, weigh in, the daily diary is great for ideas, help and support, ask questions, chat or just read the posts
Most importantly remember we are on a journey it will have bumps along the way but we have to embrace the challenge, enjoy what we're doing and have fun, you can do this 💪
Good luck
Kat xx
You just have to keep moving. If you lack persistence it's because your goal isn't really exciting you. Ask yourself what you really want. You should be thinking about it all day, moving towards your goal.
You say your depression is getting worse. Well, if you are taking any meditation for that quit it. It will not solve the main problem of depression. Observe your thinking and ask "is outer conditions and circumstances dictating my thinking, or am I in control of what i think, and therefore feel?"
Hi Aerovian - I agree with you that much can be done by a change of mindset, but I don't think it is wise to tell other people on a forum like this one to quit their prescription medication (assuming that is what you meant to write). We are not in a position to understand each other's full medical history or conditions so we should be wary to say things like that... That's my opinion anyway.
