Hi Bairavan

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Don't know weather your on the right forum as we only deal with weight loss, but saying that lossing weight can help to reduce the pain in your knees. Have you seen your GP? They can refer you to a specialist to get you the support you need with your knee.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

This may not be of any help to you but I've recently seen a sports therapist as I was getting sore knees and tight calfs. The calfs were so bad I couldn't even bend my leg properly to wash my feet. I too do a lot of walking and have taken up jogging again the last few months. It turns out that I have. A lot of tension in the muscles from the exercise and having not stretched out properly it's accumulated and caused problems. Whikstbim always conscious of stretching after jogging I never think about it with walking despite walking on average 10 miles a day. It might be worth you going to see a sports therapist for a deep sports massage as after only 2 sessions I no longer have knee pain and can bend my legs easier x

I have knee pain (osteoarthritis) and my GP sent me to the physio who suggested I do the 6 week twice weekly Knee Escape course which had an educational element and using different gym equipment and exercises that you can do at home. It has certainly helped me and it also made me look again at the medication issue. See if your area do this course, it is well worth it in my view.

Don't know if this would help but I went on the Arthritis site and someone on there recommended cherry juice. It was my husband who has gout/arthritis problems and he seems to be getting some relief after taking it.

I had bad knee pain last year before losing weight and this was a great incentive to get my excess weight off. I have always walked a lot as I have two dogs and live on the moors - I had thought maybe the pain was just old age (in my 60's), wear and tear, arthritis, but I am pleased to say - no knee pain at the moment!

The answer is

(1) reduce the load your knees carry

(2) Stretching exercises before getting out of bed in the morning can help, and again before any activity - google exercises for knee pain

(3) Wear a good elasticated knee support whilst your knees are still sore.

It might also help to sleep with a pillow under the knee for support overnight and if you can exercise without loading the joint (such as when swimming), this will be very beneficial. Use a supportive walking pole, (or maybe two), to offset some of the load from your legs to your arms when hiking. Other ideas you can try are hot and/or cold compresses which are useful if there is any swelling or damage from a sports injury for example. Hope things improve soon for you!

Also, don't know if this is any help, but i also suffered from knee pain. Visited gp and he said it was age!! hmm! so went to private physio and she said it was tight IT band. it gets tight and pulls the knee and causes pain. Its general caused by doing one particular exercise and having a weak core. Runners get it a lot. Btw pilates keeps it at bay. Anyway ,you obviously, need your own diagnosis, but if you can then try a physio before subjecting yourself to tests and all that stuff !
