Hi, after going for a health check I have decided it's the right time to get healthier. I am very obese at 15 stone and really need to get my weight loss started so I'm off to measure myself and hopefully this time next week I will be a couple of pounds lighter. ☺

Hi Persey, welcome. You've made a good start by coming here where you'll receive lots of help, support and guidance. Good luck on your dieting and leading a healthier way of life. 🙂
Hi Chuckyegg,
Thank you for the supportive message. Can I ask how you are doing on your weight loss journey and what keeps you motivated? 😊
Hi Persey
I'm at the start of week 9 and in the last eight weeks have lost 1 stone 3lbs (7.7kg) which I'm really happy about. I need to lose another stone, possibly a few pounds over that. A number of things keep me motivated:
- Every time the scales go down I enter it onto a graph and it's that downward trend that motivates me even more.
- I have a fab low calorie recipe book where the meals are so filling, tasty and easy to make that I look forward to choosing the evening meal recipes for four days of the week and enjoy preparing them as well as eating them. For three days we have more basic things.
- I like buying the smaller clothes I can now wear. Almost two dress sizes down.
- I enjoy my new bike rides
- my OH is on this diet too, so we encourage each other. He's ahead of me by 2lbs.
Those are the main motivators Persey, not to mention that I'm feeling so much better in myself.
If some of this can get you motivated then happy to be of help. You'll find lots of tips and ideas on the forum to help you along the way.
Good luck.
Hello and welcome Persey 😊
You have taken the first important step in your journey 😊 Here are a few suggestions to help you get the most from the forum 😊
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Wishing you all the best on your journey
Anna
Anna61,
Hi Anna, thank you for your message, I have downloaded the 12 week challenge and have just done my measurements and taken a photo 😣
I am hoping that if I take monthly photos I will see a difference, not sure how long I should leave between taking my measurements, I don't want to do this to often and get disappointed with no change so is it possible to advise me on this please
Welcome Persey, you sound very motivated to lose weight so I am sure you will succeed. Set yourself small goals, perhaps half a stone at a time as this won't seem so daunting as 2 or 3 stones (this will probably be your ultimate goal, but smaller chunks will seem more manageable). Reward yourself with a non-food treat for every goal achieved.
Don't forget to add exercise into the mix, even just short walks or swims as often as you can manage to start with. As you get fitter you will be able to manage more and you will find this helps to speed up your weight loss.
Probably once a month to re-measure should be fine and you should notice a difference.
Stay positive and keep posting as we are a very supportive bunch here.
Good luck and best wishes. EJ
