Hi I'm Sam single mum of 2 children. I'm 43 years old and weigh about 16 st 7lbs, at 5' 4 that gives me a bmi of 39.4!! Not good.
So yesterday after a back achy walk and a struggle to run to my son who fell off his scooter I joined a gym and had an induction last night. Then I came home and found this site. I am determined to loose some weight and be fitter.
Wish luck !!!

Morning and welcome
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you π
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news π
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for π
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate π
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page π
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask π
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too π
Hi, I'm a newbie too. My bmi I'd around 35 and am very unhappy about it. This forum seems to be full of positivity and i'm hoping that will give me the extra push.
Welcome Sam1974. You have taken the first step to a fitter, lighter, healthier you. You will also be a good role model for your children as you will set them up also for a lifetime of healthy eating and exercise. This is a great forum for support and advice, and on the days when it all feels too much (yes there will be those days), we will all be here to give you a boost.
Welcome Sam you are indeed in the right place. My BMI is 43 and I have been on my new regime since January and have lost 2 stone since then. I could write a small book with the things I have found out in the last few months, but I don't want to bore you to death! The one thing I will say is this. Losing weight is 80% about diet and 20% about exercise. It is fantastic news that you have joined the gym but please have a look at the great advice in the welcome post from cracker above.
