Cheese on toast and a milky bar

Whenever i have tried to lose weight i have gone 'all healthy' at the same time.....Lentils, quinoa, salad etc. I'm doing it a bit different this time. Proper calorie counting. Saturday I had a hot cross bun and some licorice and yesterday I had cheese on toast and a milky bar, I wouldn't have thought that possible when trying to lose weight.....Sounds silly writing it but it's a revelation to me and i am hoping it will help me to stay with it. Anybody else had a similar experience?

I'm the same, prefer a small amount of my favourites so it doesn't feel like a 'diet'. Bread, cheese, etc . At the end of the day, we are all different and need to find our own way 😊

I hope you are enjoying the forum Fresh2708 😊

Best wishes

Anna

I am, thank you. It's great to know there are others out there doing their best and struggling sometimes and conquering at others. Thanks for all you do.

Me too Anna! I'd rather have a little bit of something really nice !

Yes definitely, I never deprive myself or I'll want it more and then just eat loads. Ice cream is my downfall so as I've tried frozen yogurt as a substitute, it was nice but not the same, I allow myself a small ice cream treat occasionally xx

I'm the same definitely not on a diet as I always go back to my old eating habits, I allow myself a little chocolate & wine at the weekend.

Whatever works for you Fresh2708 although I would suggest you need to be careful of the sugar in the milky bar and liquorice. Fine for a treat, and you are clearly counting the calories.

Good luck with your weightless and lifestyle change.

I have a dessert nearly every night (mostly home made fruit crumble). Beginning of Jan I made a kind of bread and butter pudding that was so calorie laden that a 3 inch by 1 inch by 1 inch piece was 230 cals. That made 30 portions that I froze down and had them as my night time treat when I had spare calories.

I slipped into the top end of the healthy bmi range this morning :)

No need in torturing yourself if you don't have to but be strict and truthful to yourself about what you do consume.

Well done on getting to a healthy bmi, hope you have given yourself a pat on the back. Enjoy the accomplishment. Your pudding sounds heavenly.

Provided that calorie content of 'treats' is considered in overall intake for the day, they can still be enjoyed. Even when calorie counting, reduction shouldn't result in restriction.

Yes I'm the same. I have a small choc bar for lunch nearly every day (like a 2 finger kit kat). Also I make frozen things for dessert - alpro coconut yoghurt, banana and a sprinkling of nuts being my top choice at the moment! It's a choice for life - I don't want to feel ill never eat certain foods again. I haven't labelled any foods as bad or forbidden. (Although there are some whose calorie count makes them inadvisable!)

Sounds like you have a really sensible approach. Shall make sure i plan for the treats.

Eat and enjoy chocolate but dump the Nestlé maybe? Joining the Nestlé boycott is a great aid to weight loss and an investment in the health of more people than yourself alone. See babymilkaction.org for more information

I love cheese on toast but then I wouldn't consider it being 'unhealthy' (good bread, usually wholemeal, and so long as I am getting fruit and veg somewhere, don't think the chutneys and relishes count!) I do find it makes for a satisfying meal within calorie limits. In particular I have found that for things like cheddar it is better to have a good strong cheese rather than 'half fat' which I find just means having twice as much (but reduced fat halloumi is great)

I don't think it has to be either/or.

Not dissimilar I write everything down the over day I had 3 alcohol hot x bun and chocolate I wrote it down. It put my calories up by. 500 extra. What I find by writing things down I have smaller portions of the bad things like last night 3 biscuits 49 calories each at one time I probably would have eaten half the packet

Writing down definitely seems to keep me on track too. Maybe it's made more concrete in our minds. And i hear you on the half pack of biscuits but knowing I'm going to have to add that to my total and go over is stopping me. You have got me thinking....I say i want to eat healthily in the long term but i cant imagine not at least occasionally eating half a pack of biscuits . Some work to do there i think. Hope your staying with it.
