Hi everyone,

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 2.6 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 3.0 pounds, so I've gained 0.4 pound this week. I know it's only a small amount to gain, but it's the second week running that I've gained that amount - so I don't feel great about it…

I wanted to lose at least a pound this week, and I've not met my goal. I know where I've gone wrong - I've bought some packets of crisps (which I wouldn't normal do) and I ended up having more than one packet most days, so that's bound to have added to my weight.

I have kept my exercise up, and I've enjoyed my walks and also my weight training.

This week, I need to get 'back on track' and therefore I'm intending to:

a) Stop buying crisps - there are none in the house, and I won't put temptation in my way by buying any more.

b) Eat healthy foods more consistently.

c) Limit my calorie intake to less than 1,500 this week. I've been previously relying in my exercise to produce a lower net calorie intake, but I think I need to cut down a bit on my overall calories.

I baked the Banana Bran Cake (from the NHS website) over the weekend - it's really tasty! I used 'All-Bran' instead of bran flakes, and I used soya milk instead of semi-skimmed milk, but all the remaining ingredients were the same as the recipe. Tasty! I've frozen the remaining pieces so that I don't end up eating too much.

Hope you're all doing ok, and I hope you'll join me for this Monday weigh-in. I really hope to have lost some weight by next Monday, and I really hope you're doing ok with your goals. If you're new, then why not join us - everyone is welcome.

Morning Lowcal

I still see your weight gain as a positive - in 2 weeks, you have put on less than 1lb. I am sure you will shift that easily with slightly lower calories this week. The banana bran cake sounds good - and congrats on the self discipline of freezing it. The seeds on my porridge are definitely helping! (There is no tempetation to eat those on their own).

I have put on 1lb this week - not surprised after all those nuts plus a very nice Sunday roast yesterday at the local pub.

My third foot op is later today, so I will be even more inactive than I have been. I expect to be confined to bed until Thursday and then limited mobility. I am going to be fighting the urge to eat through boredom for the next two weeks. But, if it means I can eventually start walking further it will be worth it.

Hope everyone has a good week. I won't be weighing in for a while .......

Hi Bispers,

Thanks for your encouraging words - I appreciate them!

Glad you've been enjoying the porridge with the seeds and nuts, and gaining 1 pound is not that much, especially after a roast dinner yesterday. Hope you enjoyed it, it sounds tasty.

Good luck with your foot operation this afternoon. Great that the date has finally come round, as you'll be able to recuperate and start walking again relatively soon - that will be really great.

Hope all goes well, and wishing you a good week.

High lowcal. Can i join in. Ive been on and off dieting, not been able to keep motivated at all so maybe this will help. My goals this week are to eat more fruit and veg. I no it sounds simple but i have a big bowl of fruit but always end up eating the crap instead.

This morning i weigh 13st 7 1/2 lb.

Hi v1cky0115,

You are very welcome to join in, and thanks for joining us! :-)

I think you've set yourself a great goal - eating more vegetables and fruit is really good. You might consider looking at the NHS weight loss website as well, as there's a 12 week structured approach which gives week by week advice and tips for losing weight. It's really good.

Wishing you a good week and hope you have an enjoyable week.

Hi Lowcal,

Sorry to hear you stalled this week, it's so frustrating isn't it? but I'm sure you will get back on track. I don't think it helps when the weather is bad and you feel more inclined towards foods with fat in them. I dare not buy crisps - they are just so addictive, one packet leads to another!

That banana cake sounds lovely and what a good idea to freeze the rest.

I only lost half a pound this week despite watching what I'm eating, tracking everything and doing a couple of 4 mile walks ( I live in North Wales so hills come as standard

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toRosiegreenpea

Hi Rosiegreenpea,

Many thanks for your kind words. I agree that the colder weather has probably driven me to seek out the crisps… They do seem quite addictive. I'm glad I don't have anymore in the house now.

Congratulations to you for losing half a pound this week - that's really great. I know you said 'I only lost half a pound' - and you sound a little disappointed it wasn't more, but if you look at half a pound of butter on a plate, it is definitely a significant amount, so I think you should celebrate it as an excellent loss.

Great that you've got lots of hills to walk on in North Wales, that must be really great exercise.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Good morning Lowcal and everyone,

As has already been said your weight gain Is under 1lb in two weeks so is not a catastrophe. With your determination I am sure that it is a temporary setback and next week you will surprise yourself and others.

This week I weigh in at 14.8lb which is a 1.5lb drop. So far so good. Have managed to increase my bouncing (more like walking & running on the spot on the trampoline) to four tunes from the Pink albumn - so much easier to count songs than minutes. I fell off the wagon yesterday and had two glasses of wine but back on the diet today. Good luck for the rest of the week to everyone.

Hi Patsnan,

Thanks for your encouraging words - much appreciated!

Congratulations to you on losing 1.5 pounds this week - that's really great! Glad you're still enjoying your 'bouncing exercises' on the trampoline. Really sounds like fun! Those 2 glasses of wine shouldn't hold you back too much - you're back on that wagon again.

Have a great week.

My first week and I have lost 6 lbs, I'm thrilled to bits. I,m hoping to lose 2lb this next week.

in reply tocarolann48

Hi carolann48 congratulations that's fantastic. Keep going. However, don,t be surprised if the weight loss gets slower now as it's often a lot in the first week ecause we lose water!

You will feel so much better as you seen the pounds drop off so all the hard work it takes will be well worthwhile.

Have a great week

Hi Pog, thank you for your reply and encouragement, I do realise its mainly water but it looks good on paper lol. I don't really expect much of a loss next week, (2 lbs would be nice) I don't usually lose much if anything my second week, but who knows, time will tell.

Well, week 2 completed and 2.1/2 lbs off making a total of 8.1/2lbs off. I'm really really pleased. My goal for this coming week is 2lb, heres hoping I manage it. Thank you for your support.

.

Hi Lowcal sorry to hear you have put weight on. It's so tempting to eat too much when there are foods in the house that you really like. I have been struggling with eating too many chocolate biscuits and like you with crisps I need to stop buying them!!

However, I have managed to do my walks this week even though i have not felt like it. I have lost another pound. 11lb to get off by July!!

To add to everything else I am coping with depression at the moment and am waiting for medication to kick in. I do not want to use this as an excuse to comfort eat!

Have a good week.

Hi Pog1,

Thanks. Sounds like you definitely empathise with the struggle regarding crisps - and also chocolate biscuits. Many Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week - and in keeping up with your walks, even though you've not always felt like it. That's really good.

Hopefully the walking should help with your mood as well - hope your medication kicks in soon as well.

Hope you have a great week ahead, and hope the weather improves so we can enjoy our walks more!

Hi lowcal. I know how you feel this week. I've stayed the same this week which is disappointing as I only have about 5 pounds to go to my target. Like you I have been relying on my exercise calories to keep me below target, and on a couple of days failed even then! This week I am going to try and stop grazing, as some days last week there were almost more calories consumed as snacks rather than meals! I am also going to try and leave my exercise calories uneaten. The past few weeks I have let things slip and so have only lost 2 pounds since christmas. I am determined that this week I am going to change that and I will reach my target in the next couple of weeks. Good luck to everyone in the coming week.

in reply tocatch

Hi catch

I too have been eating my exercise calories and some days had far too many calories at snacks. Sometimes my motive to exercise is so that I can eat a chocolate biscuit! I would love to get to a point where I could exercise a little more and only eat half the exercise calories. Weight loss might be quicker then.

catch profile image
catch in reply to

I know, it is tempting to say "oh well, I exercised this morning so it w ill be ok to go over" isn't it. I know this is a bad habit I really must break!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tocatch

Hi Catch,

Sorry to hear you've stayed the same, but at least you've maintained your weight, and not gained. So that is a positive! Good luck with your goals to stop grazing, and also to leave your exercise calories uneaten. That should hopefully make a change - let's see if it's an effective strategy as we're both doing the same thing there.

I have 10 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight - it does feel frustrating to be bobbing about in the low 13's, and I'd love to be in the high 12's. Feels almost elusive.

I like your use of the term 'I am determined' - because that sounds really focused, and you've also said 'I am going to change that and I will reach my target' - again, really positive phrasing and I think I'll adopt that 'determined' talk as well, and maybe it can spur us on to success with our goals.

Have a great week.

Hi Lowcal,

Don't worry about it, you always lose it again :) It's less than 1lb in one of the coldest months we've had so the temptation to eat more and move less is really hard to overcome. You did manage to get out and about so you've beat part of the challenge :) Next week will be better.

I have lost another 1lb. I now weigh 13st 10lbs. That was very unexpected, I had 3 unplanned nights out last week plus one of my team had a big birthday last weekend and her sister is a cake maker who made 4 cakes, 3 of them made it into the office. I love cake, my approach was that the quicker I ate it the quicker it would be gone so I pigged out. I'm not proud of the complete lack of restraint but they were amazing, that may catch me up next week though.

My plan for this week is to not overindulge on the 2 nights out I have planned this week and continue walking home, I'm also hoping this warmer spell lasts so I can get out running again.

Hi Kate,

Thanks so much for your encouragement. I really like the fact you said 'Next week will be better' - I think it will be too! I've noticed Spring flowers trying to find their way out of the ground, and if they can push themselves up through the cold earth and blossom, then so can we!!!

Congratulations to you for losing another pound this week. I know you were surprised as you had 3 unplanned nights out, and eating all that cake!

When I watched the Horizon programme I found that I ended up 'obsessing' a bit about cake after seeing the lovely cakes that had been made to give to the participants - I felt like that programme didn't do me any favours in showing that cake to me, as it made me crave some cake. That's partly why I made the healthy Banana Bran cake from the NHS site. I have to say it's made me very 'regular' - all that bran I guess!

Hope you have a great week and that you enjoy your nights out. Hope the weather improves so you can do some running as well. In the meantime, enjoy your walks.

Lowcal :-)

I didn't lose last week at all, and gained 0.1 this week, but its a blip and will get going again. Are you doing too much exercise, muscle weighs more than fat, just a thought.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Celet,

Gaining 0.1 pound is really really small, so like you say, just a minor blip. You'll get going again.

I have considered the thought that maybe my attempts at weight training might be developing some muscle - but I suspect I'm not really doing the 'heavy duty' stuff that would create a significant difference. I am using a lot of my own body weight as 'resistance' exercise - and I also use my kettlebell - it weighs 8kg so feels heavy to me. But I think you have a point, and thanks very much for your encouragement.

I'm definitely cutting out the crisps this week.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

in reply toZest

OK, carbohydrates are not good for you, although to be honest I still have them. I need to exercise, move more, that's my problem really, being off sick for nearly 6 months hasn't helped. Weigh in on Sunday?

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Celet,

I think carbohydrates are ok - especially the ones that have plenty of fibre - i.e. natural carbs like sweet potatoes, or potatoes (particularly with their skins on); and I also enjoy wholegrain bread, wholemeal pasta, and brown rice. I think they are fine, as part of a balanced meal.

I always weigh-in on Mondays, it's the best day for me, as it's the start of a new week. That's why I pick Mondays. I know you and your buddy like to weigh-in on Sundays - you could always start a 'Sunday weigh-in post' or just join in with us on Monday. There are lots of threads in this forum, and it's the variety and choice that's great about it. Really supportive.

Sorry to hear you've been off sick for nearly 6 months. That must be tough.

Glad you've joined us, and hope you have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

in reply toZest

Hi,

OK, good luck with your weigh in's. I was told by my consultant at hospital that too many carbs are not good, i.e. potatoes, bread etc, but like you I feel you need some for the vitamins so try and spread over the week and variety too.

x

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Celet,

Good luck to you too - if I spot you in your own weigh-in, I'll definitely pop by to say 'hi'.

I think following your Consultant's advice is important, as your hospital consultant knows your medical history etc and is looking out for your health, as part of your individual treatment plan.

Personally speaking, I agree that excessive carbs are not good, but I do think that a sensible portion of carb as part of a well balanced meal is healthy. I try to choose natural unprocessed carbs like sweet potatoes, jacket potatoes, brown rice, wholemeal bread and pasta - i.e. one medium or small jacket potato alongside a larger portion of vegetables and a small to medium portion of protein (chicken or fish usually). That is my ideal kind of meal.

Maybe your Consultant has given you guidelines about how much carbohydrate he/she thinks you should have as part of your meals. It is often good to ask for concrete examples.

Wishing you a great week.

Hi, after week 3 I have gained 300g/0.6 pounds and my BMI is 27.9 (still overweight). I know it is not a huge gain, and that I must keep on.

I drank six beers this week (two nights out), but I kept under my calorie limit and exercised more to burn them.

Sorry to hear about your gain. It's not much, but I understand it's a bit of a bummer. I hope you readjust your numbers this week. Good luck and avoid crisps!

Zest profile image

Hi HRHGaby,

Great that you kept under your calorie limit and exercised too - that's great. Try not to worry about the 0.6 pound gain - like you said 'it's a bit of a bummer' but it should soon come off again. Hope you enjoyed your night's out - 6 beers over 2 night's out sounds quite measured.

Keep going and you'll get there. Hope you're enjoying the 12 week plan so far.

Thanks for your encouragement - I'm definitely going to avoid those crisps!

Morning Lowcal and everyone!

Sorry to hear about your gain Lowcal but then, not a huge gain so shouldn't be too difficult to shift. :) Fingers crossed for you this week!

I have had a less than successful week yet again! I have the determination to do this but when it comes to putting it into practise I fail. Even having roped in the partner last week, we have not done our best.

When I first joined this forum last year, my starting weight was around 13st. After weighing this morning and seeing 12st 12lbs on the scales, I was even more disappointed with myself for letting the weight creep back on after the break I took to move house.

This last week, I made more of an effort to buy more fruit and veg and have put a lot into cooking healthier meals with the veg. I did only manage 1 day of exercise last week so I know this was my downfall.

I will try harder this week. And seeing Pog1 do well when we have the same goals had left me with some catching up to do! :P

I have planned ahead for tea tonight, a nice spinach and mushroom lasagne, which I am looking forward to. Just need to make sure I keep the portion sizes down and fit in a bit of exercise while its in the oven!

Here's to a better week! :)

Sophie

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toArtsoru

HI Sophie,

It sounds like you were doing lots of positive things over the week - with your healthier cooking and having the support of your partner as well - I suspect your weight loss will happen next week - you sound determined, and you're pre-planning your meals as well, which is really helpful. Like you say, portion sizes are important, because no matter how healthy the food, if the portion size is larger then it has more calories. Your spinach and mushroom lasagne sounds really delicious.

Hope you are able to fit in the extra exercise you're hoping to do this week, and I'm sure that will contribute to a better week.

Thanks for your encouraging words to me - I really appreciate it.

Here's to a good week ahead.

Hi, I'm sure you will be back on track this week, it is a temptation if things are in the house. After Christmas the boxes of chocolates that were left I put in my husbands wardrobe and he just fetches a few down when he wants them, nearly all gone now.

I am really pleased this week I have lost 3lbs, after no loss last week kept going and it has paid off, I had a nice three course roast dinner yesterday as it was my son's birthday but watched portion sizes so shows you can have some treats, also had a couple of drinks. Back to it today though.

Hope everyone else has had a good week and good luck for next week.

It all mounts up doesn't it? I have only lost 1/2lb this week which I guess is better than nothing and hardly any exercise except unpacking boxes! Catching up with all the family this week before my husband leaves for the Middle East within the next week or two so will hopefully get back on track while he's away and less temptation to go out and socialise.

Shame about weight loss stall - as everyone says this is such a hard time of year to keep on track - cold dark rainy days shouts comfort food - disaster if it is actually in the house. Crisps are my weakness as well - I just dare not buy them. I have lost another 1lb this week - despite week 1 of having our kitchen replaced - and cooking/ food prep options a bit limited. Hi all, I lost 2lb this week, which I'm cautiously happy about. I'm cautious because I suspect the loss might be to do with water loss: I went on a long run yesterday and then didn't drink enough water afterwards. My plan this week is to carry on exercising and logging my food, but also pay closer attention to the amount of water that I'm drinking. If I'm still at 2lbs down next week, then I'll believe it!

Hi Lowcal,

What can I say that hasn't already been said? It's so darn frustrating to put on weight (even just a tiddly bit) when you've been pretty good despite a few bags of crisps - not exactly a binge is it - pooey to the gods of weight loss for doing that to you this week!!

Bonus points for keeping up the exercise last week and for listing your to-do list for this week. This really worked for me this week - last week I was 'unreasonably grumpy' if you remember as weight loss very slow on 5:2 diet - I decided that for this week as well as counting the 500 cals allowed on 'fast days' I would count calories on all my other days and try to ensure I did not go over 2,000. What a revelation! I would definitely have eaten more than 2000 if I hadn't have been counting - obviously a very greedy person! I do quite a lot of exercise but have been advised not to 'eat' my exercise calories - it's fine to do this if you are already at goal weight but if trying to lose then best not to. Well it paid off and I lost 2.5lbs this week going from 11 stone 13.5 pounds to 11 stone 11 pounds. Am very pleased and no longer grumpy ;)

I do hope you have a good week and get the loss that you want - you're so great at keeping us all motivated and upbeat so I hope for the very best for you.

Best wishes

Thanks also for your very encouraging words regarding my slight gain. I like your suggestion to say 'pooey to the Gods of weight-loss' - they definitely try to scupper things from time to time - but we can out-foil them!

I think it's very easy to end up eating more than 2,000 calories - it doesn't seem to take that much to get to that level. Well done to you for keeping yourself within your limits on your non-fasting days, as well as sticking to your fasting day limits too. That's really good.

Hope you have another great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal, sorry you've gained again, but it is a small amount even with the previous gain and you have a plan so that is good :)

I have stayed the same this week which I am pleased about as my motivation has been low and I struggle to exercise when it is icy as I'm afraid of exacerbating my whiplash if I slip :|

Tkd was cancelled tonight so I went out to do a c25k podcast but my mp3 decided to do otherwise so I did an irritated hybrid walk run instead!! Feel better for it anyway :)

Hope you get back on track for next week.

Hi Kate,

Thanks :-)

Well done for maintaining your weight this week - that's really good going when your motivation has been lower than usual, and I think you're very sensible to be careful in the icy weather. Your hybrid walk run sounds very interesting! You obviously improvised in view of the difficulty with your mp3. Glad you feel better for that exercise.

I think I am back on track - today was quite good food-wise and I managed to exercise too (did a walk in the rain and got very wet and cold, but managed to warm up later).

Wishing you a good week ahead.

Hi Lowcal

Wrote a long msg then computer died on me; I appear to have lost it all.

A small gain Lowcal, really it is. What is so inspiring that whatever is going on for you you are here each Monday telling us how it is AND offering so much support for the rest of us LC groupies. I hope you feel the 'massiveness' (don't check the dictionary!) of support back to you. You'll do it, you've come SO far.

I will join you in the no crisps in the house this week. (This week I discovered Pringles are 1000cal a tube - couldn't BELIEVE it - that well and truly curbed my pig out. OMG...1000cal!!!! Can't believe I didn't know that. Pleased to have read that before I ate the lot!)

I was 12st 6.5lbs last week and this week I am 12st 5.5lbs. As I said last week I'm just trying to be healthier than I was with my last pregnancy (hmm, better leave the crisps & sweet treats OUT of the shopping trolley then). Been feeling pretty sick at times so haven't wanted to eat but at other times I have succombed to scoffing a few treats, mainly choc. Trying to snack on fruit but sometimes it just doesn't hit the mark but I AM engaging my brain ie if I have a choc biscuit I only have ONE instead of 5/the whole packet! I know already I am more restrained than I was last pregnancy so that's good. Just got to keep it up. Still early days though...fingers crossed. (Have mc'd before so aware it's common in the early days. Will feel more 'confident' after first scan.)

Have a good week. See you next week.

Hi Dreamaldives,

Sorry to hear you lost your first msg, and glad you were able to write another - great to hear from you as always - and thanks for the support and encouragement - I do appreciate and feel positivity from everyone on here, and find it helps keep me on track. So thank you!

Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week. I noticed that the NHS 12 week plan says it's NOT suitable for pregnant women, so I hope that you're getting some advice from someone in the medical field - maybe your GP or health visitor to advise you on what is healthiest to do throughout the different stages of your pregnancy. Just wanted to say that, because the health of yourself and your pregnancy are paramount. I guess you probably know quite a bit already, but it could be good to refresh yourself and gain some ongoing advice from someone who knows about the best way to have a healthy pregnancy, and what advice to follow in terms of eating healthily.

Amazing to hear how many calories are in a Pringles can - I used to eat those in the past. I think a small bag of crisps is fine, but I know I can't keep it to just one bag, and therefore I'm not risking it this week - they are not coming in the house. Maybe after a couple of weeks I'll allow myself just 1 bag. Probably Prawn cocktail flavour. If I buy just that individual bag then that will be fine.

Anyway, wishing you a great week.

Hi Lowcal

Thanks for the support and advice. Yes, as you say the most important thing is that I stay healthy. I have looked at healthy eating for pregnancy on other websites for info and advice. I would consider myself a 'level-headed' person, I am not planning on losing any more weight as I know it's not at all good to do that, nor I am I trying (forcibly) to keep my weight down as the weeks progress. I suppose by checking in here I am working on 'minimising the damage' as inevitably I will be putting on weight when baby gets bigger but I know without the support of this thread I could add a lot more than purely baby weight by taking the "eating for two" stance in a weak moment!!! :-)

Have a great week yourself, I appreciate your kind words.

Hi Dreamaldives,

Sounds like you've found some good advice and you do sound very 'level-headed' too - it's good that there are some good pregnancy websites out there for healthy eating advice when pregnant.

Here's to a great week ahead, and will look forward to catching up with you again next week.

Hi Lowcal, having stuff in the house is always my downfall. I always think I can be sensible about it and it never happens which is why I've just stopped having anything in the house at all. Stay strong against the crisps this week and I'll bet that 1lb will come back off!

I've managed to lose 1 and a half pounds this week while I'm really pleased about as I haven't had the best week. I went out for Chinese yesterday so I'm hoping it doesn't catch back up with me this week!

Good luck with your goals for this week

Hi SineadC92,

Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week - that's really great. Especially as you didn't think you'd had the best of weeks. Hopefully you'll have worked off that Chinese meal by next week's weigh-in, and it won't catch up with you.

Thanks for your kind words - 'staying strong against the crisps'. :-)

Have a great week.

I think you have to feel 'the time is right' when you choose to weigh-in. I think it's a very personal thing. Glad your weigh-in today hasn't been 'tooooo bad' - I am presuming you've lost something - not sure what your weight was last week, but sounds like you're going in the right direction. Really good!

Wishing you a good week ahead.

I am still going the wrong way-no interest no motivation and therefore no discipline and easily distracted to eat more than necessary. So the results are not surprising. Will ponder some more this week!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tosuzybenj

Hi Suzybenj,

Maybe reassess your 'motivation levels' by thinking about the changes you've made to date, and the changes you'd still like to make - think about whether things have become 'boring' or 'uninteresting' or whatever the description is that is most apt - and then think of some ways to re-motivate yourself. Maybe doing some things in a different routine than usual. Sometimes for example I find that a particular walk can be completely different (and therefore more interesting again) by just walking it in a different direction. Sometimes, changing the food you're eating to something equally healthy, but a bit different, can be good. Trying a new vegetable you've never tried before, or cooking a new recipe.

I know you're pondering this week, so hope you come to some positive solutions to re-motivate and re-engage yourself, and hopefully that discipline you feel you are lacking right now, will follow and bring you some success and enjoyment.

Good luck, and hope you have a better week ahead.

Hey all. I was 12 stone 8 last monday and weighed in at exactly the same this monday. I had three takeaways this week (I know, I know...), did 2 fast days and no exercise. This week my aim is to do at least 3 sessions on the cross trainer and two fast days. No takeaway but I am going out for a meal and will be sensible. Want to be in the 11's so badly!

Well done for maintaining your weight this week, despite having 3 takeaways this week. I think that's good going! Hope you coped ok with your two fast days.

You've got some good goals for this week, and hope you enjoy your cross training. Hope you enjoy your meal out as well, and hopefully by next week you'll be getting closer to the 11's.

Have a great week.

Good luck for the coming week.

good morning lowcall! thanks for your posts, joined today. done private weigh in at home from 12/1/15, weighed 13st 13lb. at 5ft 6in have long term goal of losing about 3 and a half stone but have set more realistic goal of losing 19lb and weigh 12 and a half stone, by 13/7, when i want to wear a favourite summer outfit for a family event. so less than a 1lb a week over 26 weeks . sounds doable but on 19/1had lost nothing and 26/1 just 1lb! It will be good for me to post my weight weekly and hopefully encourage me to stick to my resolve to cut down on alcohol, increase exercise , always eat breakfast and cut out processed snacks like chocolate and crisps.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tosidcup1

Hi Sidcup1,

Welcome, and thanks for joining us. Congratulations on losing 1 pound so far, that's great. I know you were hoping for a greater weight loss, but you've lost on average half a pound a week, and that's not insignificant! Are you using a specific weight loss plan? I think the NHS website's 12 week structured plan is really good - have you seen it? It's definitely worth a look as it's got lots of good advice.

You've got some good goals, and it's great that you've got that Summer event to work towards - it will give you a good incentive to keep going! Actually looking at your resolutions - i.e. to cut down on alcohol, increase exercise, avoiding processed foods etc, those all sound really good.

Wishing you a really good week ahead, and will look forward to catching up with you at future Monday weigh-ins.

dear lo cal, thanks for support. i hope you are having a good weekend. Im not following a particular plan at the moment but trying to follow my own ideas based on common sense and targeting what i know are my weaknesses. ill give it a few weeks and if doing well will keep going, if not will have a proper look at the 12 week plan. i am happy with how this week has gone and knowing i will be posting my weight on monday is definitely helping as i had a very small glass of wine last night , finishing a bottle, and held off opening a new one. there is a chilled bottle in the fridge but not tempted at all today which is good. I am meeting friends tomorrow so know i will have a glass or two then but am going to try and leave the bottle in my fridge unopened until next weekend. take care sidcup1 x

You're doing really well. Keep it going. Sounds like you've got a good plan.

I notice you did try to re-post your weight loss (below) but you've put it in the same place (i.e. in the post dated 26th January, instead of 2nd February). I don't know how to give you the link to the 2nd February post, but hopefully you can find it by looking at the titles of the posts).

Enjoy your week.

Hi Sidcup1,

Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week. That's so great!!! I wanted to ask you if you'd like to re-post your weight in the post that has today's date (2nd February) - then you can join in with the latest posts from everyone, and see how everyone is getting on. You've added this to last week's post (dated 26th January).

No problem if you don't want to add it to the 2nd February post, but I thought I'd make you aware that each Monday weigh-in that I post is dated with the current date, and so you can easily check which one is current.

I think you're doing great, and hope you have another great week ahead.

Hi, going to do my first weigh in tonight and start the diet. I have never tried to diet before but as my son is getting married in August, I am going to use that as the push I need to get healthier and lose some weight. Wish me luck!

Hi Jennej6,

Welcome to you! Great that you're doing your first weigh-in tonight, and good luck with your healthy eating plan - are you doing the NHS 12 week structured plan? It's on the NHS website pages.

Great that your son is getting married in August - that's a great incentive to lose some weight for - and you've got some time between now and August.

Good luck! Wishing you the best with your goals.

I do a regular Monday weigh-in, always titled 'Please Join Me for a Monday Weigh-in' and then the current Monday date is in brackets after the title - I'll be posting tomorrow's weigh-in between 7am and 7.15am, so do look out for it, and hopefully join us if you want to!

You would be very welcome.

Have a great week.

Hi Lowcal,

Sometimes you do get weeks where you don't loose (or even gain!), but what's important is that you are remaining positive, have already made plans about how you can reduce your calorie intake and that you're keeping going... well done!

This is my first Monday weigh-in (I started my diet on Saturday). I was 12.8 and weighed 12.6 this morning. Yay! 2lbs gone already, but I know that can happen when you first start..( funny how if you stop eating all the rubbish you loose weight..??!!)

Really pleased to have this forum to keep me motivated :)
