Hello especially to fellow New Recruits

Today I had an, 'Enough is Enough' moment when finally I decided to address my weight issues and begin the long process of losing over 100 pounds.

My 60th Birthday is looming this year and I need to get myself in a better health situation to go happily and healthily towards retirement. (Heaven knows I have paid enough into retirement plans to not be able to enjoy some pay-back!)

I have done some serious soul searching and intend to be totally honest - especially to myself. No more denial of reality. If I have an extra glass of wine - I will count it, if I have a chunk of cheese, yes that too will be counted.

In the past I have looked as though I was dieting to those around me, but was in denial and cheated frequently. NO MORE!

I hope to link up with several serious dieters to share our time ahead. The ups and hopefully more downs (weight wise). To support, encourage and generally share the experience.

I am in this for the long haul, so please let me know if you too are of a similar mind.

Joy

Hi and welcome, Joy :)

My 60th is in nine weeks time and I have lost just over 100lbs! If I can do it, so can you :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Welcome JoyKT and what a great post.

I especially like the bit about honesty to oneself. I can admit that there have been a number of times, especially when I first started. I would reach my calorie limit for the day, then choccy monster my way past it and feel inclined to reduce the number of chocolates I'd eaten in my daily diary. I didn't and that helped me make better, reality based decisions the following day.

You've come to a great site with lots of friendly helpful people.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum JoyKT this is THE place to be for anyone wanting to lose weight. Most of us will say we are changing our lifestyle rather than dieting because it has to be sustainable. I am presuming (forgive me if i am wrong) that the unwanted weight crept up on you over time, it didn't just happen overnight. So really you need to be prepared to lose it gradually too through eating more healthily, the right amount for your body and doing some exercise. whatever exercise you fancy.

Make your weight loss journey an adventure not a burden and try new foods. Come on the forum regularly, get to know people and join in the conversations. Lots of advice and tips, but they are offered for you to do with as you wish.

Have a look at myfitnesspal for logging food eaten and exercise and I find MapMyWalks helpful so that I know how far I have walked and how many calories I have burned.

Good luck and stick with it.
